I'm so behind on what's cool these days. Last properly DiS friendly new thing I got was probably Jonsi's solo album
but awesomeness doesn't have an age!
Others spring to mind but that was the first I thought of
Giving it a spin now. Fancy a bit of hippity hop
but Effi Briest and Phantogram are bloody tops too.
As good as anything by Joanna Newsom or Sufjan Stevens IMO
Gil Scott-Heron's 'I'm New Here' is amazing.
or Gonjasufi's A Sufi And A Killer
But so much good stuff has come out this year, that it's nigh impossible to keep up with it
Wonderful organic electonica, sparkling notes like shards of light. Lose yourself in it.
followed by Gonjasufi - A Sufi and a Killer (which is difficult initially but gets better and better after repeated plays...) but i'm not sure i can describe it....someone help..
They've had the most plays in my humble abode....
harlem - hippies
sleigh bells - treats
Liars - Sisterworld?
LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening ?
Amongst my absolute favourites.
one of those two
from the mass amount of listenings I've been giving Pulled Apart By Horseseseseses debut I might change my mind to that.
All their lyrics should be in caps. The band name should be in caps.
Definately Big Boi or Janelle Monae
I love High Violet by the National
This is happening by LCD Soundsystem I think s really good but i oddly don't listen to it much
Plastic Beach has rewarded sticking with it even when I felt majorly disappointed
god my tastes have been so mainstream this year :|
Not a popular choice here, but I stand by it
Probably the most outstanding album i've heard this year.
A little bit closer to home (well, these isles) would be 'Minutes' by Jogging.
When is this out properly?
Dying to get my hands on it
These New Puritans - Hidden or
65daysofstatic - We Were Exploding Anyway; or
Midlake - The Courage of Others
John Grants Queen of Denmark is the one to choose.
Amazed no ones said Arcade Fire yet?
Sorry, have tried.
is the answer you're looking for.
fuck the national.
The new Arcade Fire
Although I haven't heard Mines yet.
gets another vote from me.
he's looking for recommendations, not for us to choose his fav album of the year... or to validate his opinion on something.
I understand sometimes when these posts get thrown in, but some people don't have a clue.
Chill your boots! It's *actually* just my personality ;)
I didn't mean any offense.
Maybe I will compile a list to validate my apology :D
sleigh bells — treats
for my money. seems to have divided opinion, though.
or Harvey Milk, because, yeah, Harvey Milk.
Haven't really clicked with Gonjasufi yet, but 'Cosmagramma' is interesting. I felt a bit let down by 'This Is Happening' too.
I'm not a big fan of African music, or at least I didn't THINK I was. Add in a (subtle) touch of avant-electronica, however...
http://open.spotify.com/album/2sLexafmIWIPSUOnoK3U5u if this sounds more life-affirming than Doug Rocket to you
(features Gyorgi Ligeti's son fwiw)
Been listening to this a hell of a lot more than anything else recently.
I love The National album.
Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti too
Caribou's been mentioned - its nice, really good in places but I just can't shake the Arthur Russell tribute act vibe.
The Besnard Lakes is astonishingly good.
The Irrepressibles - Mirror Mirror
Janelle Monae - The Archandroid
Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot
CocoRosie - Grey Oceans
Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma
Sleigh Bells - Treats
Lots of good albums released this year.
I'd say that soapy sure doesn't
into every thread ever made, and I think you're onto something.
Though Surfer Blood and These New Puritans have fired out a couple of crackers as well.
