This is the big clash at End Of The Road fest and I can't make my mind up....thoughts?
Caribou tour and play festivals far more often than Yo La Tengo, so I'd go for Yo La Tengo. I find Caribou work far better in a small venue too rather than outside at a festival.
or will the smaller stage Caribou is on be finishing later? (ie Caribou maybe not starting until 10.30/11)
The Big Top runs later than the Garden Stage
I think they try to stagger the start times, I don't remember too many bad clashes in previous years.
But Definitely Yo La Tengo. Definitely.
Knocked me out tbh, and the new album is really something else. If he does the festival set he did at Field Day it'll be great.
set at Field Day was the worst I've seen them, more for the general atmosphere/sound of the main stage than their performance. Really looking forward to their dates later in the year.
Drunk evening festival crowd, great buzzing vibe. Sun just going down as they did 'Sun'. Heavenly stuff.
but if you've never seen YLT, then definitely you'll want to see them. From a historical perspective, your kids probably won't care to hear about Caribou, while YLT are indie legends and you'll want that on your resume.
Caribou is very interesting, but you can get the jist of it pretty quickly. Meanwhile, YLT are likely to be more engaging with the audience: maybe taking requests, or telling interesting anecdotes, and just generally blowing your socks off with rockin tunes.
being bass player in ylt must be the most boring job in music, dunno why kaplin insists on doing those extended noise jams because he really isnt very good at them, they never seem to show their hushed side live and thats their best side
This ^ is the problem you see, as much as I love YLT I've heard a few people say that they're pants live. Probably will still choose them though. Although thinking about it, I'll probably still be in tears from Iron & Wine.
Would be nice if Caribou was later though, hadn't thought of that.
if you were coming to the Caribou gig at Bristol Thekla on 23/11/10 would you? Amateur!
But Yo La Tengo are AWESOME live. Really.
