Anyone got any? I need two.
I'm just looking for one
Surely someone has a babysitter/organic veg box/career-related issue that's popped up at the last minute.
I'd be keen, ta
7.30 Bill Wells
8.15 The Blow
9.15 Jens Lekman
The Blow was sort of like a singing advert for american apparel. Still good, mind.
one of the under appreciated legends of British music.
He also played piano in Jens' band.
seemed really good, wish i'd got there earlier
Really loved it, the new songs sounded great.
Enjoyed Jens too, though the new songs sounded a bit... plodding? I never really warmed to Night Falls Over Kortedala and the new record sounds a bit of a "part 2" of that. That said, the last 30 mins dance party was immense. How good was Maple Leaves?
top gig, even though a slight mid set lull for jens. the dance party at the bit at the end was good, being front row was even better!
The Blow was great
That girl. With the camera. Running across the front row. Firing the flash in JL's face. You know the one.
The absolute definition of 'people who...'
that flash was blinding me, and I was'nt trying to perform!
think she was sitting in front of me with her bf making me sick singing and talking in each other's ears all night as well. Get a grip. Watch the fucking gig.
pretty much entirely agree (though re:manchester). While it was worth going to another city, and being pretty pricey it was totally worth it, but probably the worst time i've seen him.
black cab, maple leaves & pocketful of money just stood SO highly above everything else in the set, though that is coming from someone who thinks the first 2 records are the best indie/pop records i've ever heard
new songs just sounded like a less good Kortedala, which itself was a massive drop in quality from the first two (though i still quite enjoy it)
Jens was amazing though. I agree about the new songs sounding a bit plodding almost, but I love Kortedala and the songs from that album were great. & the new song which he made available for download was good too. Would have loved to have seen 'I'm Leaving You Because I Don't Love You', and it would have been good if The Opposite Of Hallelujah was played in the standy up dancing bit. Nice encore singalong too!
There was a slight lull with new songs. I'd hesitate to assess at this stage, they weren't of a style which is going to come across particularly immediately. And new songs live are almost always a little difficult to translate.
I'm not going to rule them out yet. I had a good couple of days of just listening to lots of Jens stuff before the gig, and so am hopeful/eager for the next album.
