Who is the best Wu Tang Clan member, solo album wise?
Picked up about 6 or so albums for £2 each by Ghostface, ODB, Raekwon etc at the weekend in a charity shop. Right result.
But who do you reckon fared the best, and which ones MUST I be seeking out?

best wu tang member is ODB
best solo album is liquid swords
cheers
TheWza
Nah
Hush, Digi, hush.
I'd go for Ghostface
even though he's a borderline-psychotic tit.
The album Fishscale is a banger.
Bonus points for cover art

GHOSTFACE without a doubt
Ironman, Supreme Clientele, Fishscale are all stone cold classics
In fact Supreme Clientele is the best rap album of the noughties FACT
RZA does it all
Solo albums, producing, film scores. Heck, even acting.
neh, RZA lost the plot a long time ago.
best thing he's done recently was soundtrack Kill Bill IMO.
aside from the early production then yea, he's pretty crap really the RZA
The best solo Wu Tang album is definitely
Liquid Swords by the Gza.
However, in terms of consistency of solo releases, Ghostface wins hands down. Raekwon does alright too.
GFK for sure
but I kind of feel like Method Man should get more props really, Tical was an amazing record as well as being possibly the darkest wu affiliated albums ever.
Ghostface in terms of consistency
Although I'd place Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx I & II above anything he's done, including Supreme Clientele. Thing is Rae doesn't release much that's been anywhere near as good as those two. Does seem to have found his form again now though... Wu Massacre was great, and he's put out some nice mixtapes.
RZA does too much.
....
as most people will say
Best Album: Liquid Swords (but with Tical, and Cuban Linx running it close)
Most consistent: Ghostface
The best 3 releases
GZA - Liquid Swords
GZA & DJ Muggs - Grandmasters
Method Man - Tical
Ghostface/Raekwon most consisistent
Ghostface probably
Ironman, Supreme Clientele and Fishscale are all amazing.
Only Built For Cuban Lynx parts 1&2 are both sensational but despite all the above Liquid Swords is possibly my favourite solo release.
I'm desperately searching for someone to go to the Brixton show with, might just go alone though. Quite pricey though.
Interesting spread of reactions there...
Cheers folks. I think i probably have a lot of the best solo records then (some ODB, Cuban Linx 1+2, Supreme clientele...)
Liquid swords next!
liquid swords
IS HEAAVVYYY
Liquid Swords easily
but Cuban Linx I comes close. ABsolutely killer. Good shout for Tical though....
ODB is/was the best member surely. Can't rap for shit but that don't matter when you're that entertaining.
Best Wu-tang verse though anyone?
So many to choose from but Capadonnas verse on Winter Warz off Ghostface's Ironman. So, so good (pretty much the only good thing he did!)
best wu tang verse
is the entirety of protect ya neck minus u-god's verse
Best wu tang SONG is still protect ya neck,
as far as I'm concerned.
I'll go for GZA's first on Swordsmen instead though
So effortlessly cool
Would have said Capadonna on Winter Warz if you hadn't
It's sensational
ODB on rawhide, first or second... that entire track is fucking terrifying
Album-wise
"Enter the 36 Chambers" is best Wu-Tang collective album, "Liquid Swords" best Wu-Tang solo album. Best verse for me is Masta Killa on 'Da Mystery of Chessboxin'', although all of the verses on that track slay.
All the solo Wu you should own:
Ghostface - Ironman, Pretty Toney Album, Supreme Clientele, Fishscale, Big Doe Rehab
ODB - Return to the 36 Chambers
Raekwon - Only Built For Cuban Linx 1, Only Built For Cuban Linx 2
Method Man - Tical, Tical 2000: Judgement Day
GZA - Liquid Swords, Beneath the Surface
RZA - Bobby Digital
Killah Priest - Heavy Mental
Masta Killah - No Said Date
Then you should have the first 2 Gravediggaz albums.
Ghost is probably the 'best'. But Method Man can rip it if he wants, and has that voice and that effortless smooth that the others are lacking. Ghost has the best solo run tho, no doubt, Ironman being my favorite and then Pretty Toney Album and then Supreme Clientele.
As far as favorite solo album, its a toss up with Ironman, OB4CL, Liquid Swords and Heavy Mental.
Disagree on Tical2000 and the second Gravediggaz album:
both pretty disappointing for me. I'm not really a fan of Ironman either (Daytona500 aside)
Tical has a great first half, then peters out. I like Nigga Please as well.
I really like Gdiggaz 2nd album.
Its not as grimy and demented as 6 Feet Deep but it has some heat: Da Bomb, Pit of Snakes, Unexplained, Never Gonna Come Back, Hidden Emotions, Repentance Day and Deadliest Biz. Being that the 1st album is one of the best rap LPs ever, it doesnt quite stack up, but still worth having,
The 2nd half of Tical has Release Yo Delf man! And I Get My Thang In Action. Great album all the way through imo, and the whole affair hits SOOO DEEEEEEP. One of the deepest sounding albums I have.
Tical 2000 has Retro Godfather, which makes the purchase worthwhile alone, but the rest is really good too, what dont you like about it?
The 2nd Gravediggaz album is awful.
But the first one is mint as you say though.
Awful you say?
How so?
I think you need to revisit it moff. Da Bomb sounds incredible. GEEE ARRRRE AAAA VEEEE EEEEE DEEE I DOUBLE G A TO THA ZIGGG ZAAAGGG ZEEEE. Never Gonna Come Back? Hidden Emotions? You dont like any of those.
Maybe its not your favorite... but ... AWFUL? nah
Cuban Linx Pt. I
My favourite one quite easily. Haven't listened to Liquid Swords that much though.
.
Pretty much agree wit theShipment's list and Masta Killah is so overlooked, No Said Date and Brooklyn's Finest are great albums that get little credit. Slightly related and probably not applicable for 99.9% of you but if anyone is US then pick up tickets for this one day hip-hop festival, I'm going to NY day and am nearly shitting myself with excitement

I was going to try and make the LA
show but cant do it, which SUUUCKS. Have fun.
Its going to be awesome
Looking forward to Lauryn Hill either having a complete melt down or being the best thing ever as much as the rest of the the bill
I am so jealous of this gig
ARGH
Yeah Liquid Sword's is amazing
Masta Killah is amazing as well though. I really enjoyed RZA's gravediggaz project though.
U-God
raekwon
only built 4 cuban linx
Ghostface has the strongest body of work
but Liquid Swords and the first Only Built 4 Cuban Linx are better than anything Ghost has put out imo
Ghostface
Q. Who is the best Wu Tang Clan member? A. Obvsly Johnny Blaze
Q. Who is the best Wu Tang Clan member, solo album wise? A. I dunno.
none of em...
massive wu fan but massively inconsistent.
first round of rza productions (ironman, liquid swords, cuban linx, tical) solid gold but pretty hit and miss after that.
ghostface is responsible for some shockers but allways seems to redeem himself.
my personal fave is probably rza. i think birth of a prince and digi snacks impressively ambitious and versatile
The answer is Raekwon
I hope when they regroup they have a big image of ODB on stage
And all stand around it at some point singing 'Hey, Dirty. Baby we got yo money...'
Preferably a statue
carved in PCP.
