PEOPLE WHO LIKE MJUSIC FOR THE REPLACEMENTS.
they are undeniably brilliant but i never see any dialog about them. Like they are never discussed.
I love them , but i've never actually met a fellow fan. Not many fans in the UK i think.
and to BS,
I think it's because for a time they were MASSIVE like U2 massive (with songs like Dare)
Then went back to, not obscurity, but general alt-rock anonymity.
Everyone likes them, so no one's really going to bring them up
The were a popular college rock/alternative band then signed to a major in 1985, but they never crossed over to the mainstream in US
I guess i find it hard to believe considering how ropily produced their albums are. Its the same with the wedding present. i read somewhere that they were the biggest indie band in the country at one point. Im like no way.
The replacements need to be discussed more. And Paul Westerberg.
Left Of The Dial, Little Mascara and Here Comes A Regular = candidate for three greatest closing tracks on an album.
I love them so :)
just kill me. In every way possible.
Love some of Pauls solo stuff too, Suicaine Gratification especially.
pleased to meet me is one of my favourite albums
probably still the only band tattoo I will ever consider.
lots of stuff in there I've never heard/read before.
I think I've mentioned this before, but The Replacements are my favorite band. I discovered them when I was sixteen or so, like 5 years after the broke up, and they've informed my music taste/world view/etc. ever since.
It's really nice to see them getting more and more recognition lately, especially Paul's songwriting and lyrics, which I'd stack up against anybody's. And it's not just in articles and lists and whatever. Search some of your favorite tracks on Youtube, and you'll find loads of kids covering them in their bedrooms.
Absoultely love Left of the Dial. and Alex Chilton. So much so I covered it for a brief period. It went down very well one night, and then very badly another.
And that gruff punk tribute record "We'll Inherit the Earth" with Against me! and The Draft and stuff on was super good. J Page who cover Left of the Dial, somehow manage to add bits of Pictures of You and Kiss The Bottle into the ending. LOVE.
Great band, not given the attention it maybe should command. 'Black Diamond' is a cracker!
