They've gone all orchestral-rock again. Dull, dull, dull...
they're back already...
but that was very underwhelming
(Why did that post while I was halfway through typing?)
I was pleasantly surprised from Journal and this is still better then the stuff they put out during their proper low. The is still a hint that this album will still be good though.
but it doesn't sound brilliant on first listen. I'm sure the Manics will pull something decent out of the bag for the album, and maybe it'll grow on me a bit
brief "...the end of" at 2:45 makes me feel uncomfortable
they did say this lp will be a last stab at pop stardom or something
but it's still good. It's always good to hear the Manics. They've been shockingly prolific lately. When did they even have time to write and record this album? They just got done touring the last album. They always said each album is a reaction to the last so it makes sense that after somewhat returning to the Holy Bible sound they would go a bit poppy.
I'm starting to like it...
it took you fools long enough to realize they're shit. the dead guy was a nice move that made them stars.
this is my least favorite side, but will be a welcome return for those who disliked Journal.... Manics have been swaying from brilliance to dull medio'crass'ity since they arrived on the scene way back...cant believe people havent got used to it yet
the manic have always had pop leanings and I guess this is just them displaying that side to their music a bit more.
I personally think it's great. When they do 'unashamedly big' they do it well (Motorcycle Emptiness, Design For Life, Send Away The Tigers etc) and with an actual tune, unlike other bands I could mention. I also think 'Journal' was an okay album but the lyrics were just random kooky cack - controversial...? So, there we go...
