On sale here now through HMV..
Pay a bit more for a Special Edition and a gig ticket. Nice work all around.
Have i mentioned before that I LOVE UNDERWORLD. My friend can't go to their iTunes gig this Saturday so I'm off instead. Very, VERY excited...
PLEASE PLAY JUANITA / KITELESS.
just holding off buying for now, as I reckon they could do Sept 17 as well - Friday's are better
I'm in London for something on the 18th, and will be arriving and staying on the 17th. If I could do this as well it would be AWESOME. At 37, I am too old to be saying awesome but I don't care.
if they play Juanita / Kiteless I may well explode.
reading this Messrs Hyde and Smith) a Welsh date or at the very least Bristol please. Given that you met at Cardiff Uni its about bloody time you came back here and entertained us !
Anyone else getting stoked for Barking?
I bought Downpipe. That was ok. Not great mind
Even Blakey from On The Buses would lose his shit to that.
I'm not mad keen on the vocals though?
No UW album would be complete without her :)
It's nearly all new stuff, which will be interesting...
that's kind of disappointing having never seen them before
But last time I saw the band, I got a 2 hour plus set and stuff ranging from b-sides, rarities, rarely played album tracks and all the big hitters.
ALWAYS worth a look. I saw them three times in 6 months once and EVERY gig had an almost entirely different setlist
The National played just under two hours. 22 songs in their iTunes show.
... the bonus CD is the raw demos they've been gigging since Oblivion--the ones they roped the collabs in on to make up the bulk of Barking.
Everyone's happy :)
but this was good, right?
Not sure if it's going up or not though. But to not give much away. Yeah... kind of?
They're always great entertainment but the new stuff sounds quite frankly awful. The older tracks salvaged the evening, but I'm not hopeful that Barking will be much cop alas. But who knows, might change my mind in 3 months time. Like I did with 'AHDO'.
which was frankly pretty awful, the new material sounded alright. Still, Rez/Cowgirl, King of Snake, Two Months Off and Born Slippy sounded as good as they ever have.
They seemed a bit lazy and.... cheap? Like this one:
33 minutes in.
"Bird 1" and "Louisiana" bookend the album with vintage 'world.
You need to keep an open mind for the rest if you're a "Banstyle" or "Dino Adventure 3D" nut.
Expect Depeche Mode, and you're laughing.
I'm still looking forward to it. I usually take a while to get used to new Underworld material, even as far back as 'Beaucoup Fish'. I found 'Crocodile' and 'Two months off' terrible on first listen and love both now, so who knows... I just don't this more direct, literal vocal style. Seems very unUnderworld?
i.e. poppier. I agree that it'll take some growing. But the boys still knock out some truly divine grooves, and once you accept that the sixteen-minute pill monster era is over (longest cut here is "Scribble" at seven), you'll ride it. The hardest bit for me is seeing what a couple of the prods have done with the demos that the band premiered live.
Bet I regret it in 4 weeks time when I declare the new record their best since 'Second toughest'!
As an aside, if Underworld were to play a 'Don't look back' set, which album would you want it to be?
one after the other for just me and my friends one night at Fabric? Please?
In order or preference:
Second toughest > Dubnobass > Beaucoup fish > Oblivion with bells > AHDO
I'd settle for any of the first 4 on that list though.
but the first three are completely interchangeable and the best one always seems to be the one I'm listening to at the time.
I'll make a few phone calls about that Fabric gig and if it all works out you can come along.
How do you guys know so much about the new album by the way? From snippets of leaked live stuff or a connection with the band?
except what they played on Saturday.
And am slowly adjusting.
And also, seen this resource? Well handy, can work out which songs I have and haven't seen live now!
