has this been announced a while ago? i only just found out :(
shame, saw some great lunchtime instores there.
They're opening a new store in 2011 though!
After all, a coffee shop with a box of cds on the counter is basically a starbucks, no?
explains what that last tweet about the last ever instore was all about! Do you know if they'll still be doing things online?
Apparently they have a new website launching in August. I went in today and asked about the new store, but they don't seem to know when or where. Seems to have happened rather suddenly.
sadly with living about 200 miles i visited the shop, but with some off ace exclusives & signed records glad to hear there still operating web-wise.
It always seemed a bit of a silly shop, unless of course there was some other room I didn't know about. One with records in.
and I thought that, barely any records and free instores, didnt understand how they could make money, unless they rearranged it when there werent instores
not just me, then.
The instores wore loss leaders, I suppose. They must have made a bit back on the bottled booze and insanely expensive trail mix.
Way better than rough trade as a venue though.
It's only down the road from my office. Hardly ever have the records I want, but it's a nice place to drink when it's not rammed for an in-store. Surprised it was noise complaints that did it though, it always seemed like a crazy location when they opened.
nice relaxing atmosphere, FREE GIGS, moderately priced beer, FREE GIGS
My favourite lunchtime venue ever. So many good shows, from the insanely loud Health to the incredible Amadou & Mariam, and it will be sorely missed.
the place did worked great for instore shows, but needs somewhere to actually sell records, or you just turn up, maybe buy a coffee and leave - that's not going to make much money.
Saying that I've gotten a good few 7's online in the past.
Odd that it's noise that's killed it. Never heard much noise come from the place past 8-9pm. Certainly no more than the pub about four doors down. Local residents are grand.
All the CDs were like on the stage and you had to stand on it to choose and it felt like everyone was watching me. Not particularly comfortable for browsing.
I paid and scuttled out.
The man at the counter was very nice though.
maybe open a shop that's open on weekends and sells records this time.
shame it's closing for a bit though
glad it's reopening somewhere else.
