Excuse the journo jag but I and the fine chaps at the Quietus thought this might be of interest to the DiS boards.
is that it doesn't require much of the listener. The music you mention which I've heard as well doesn't have that quality, more the opposite, it invites the listener to do something with the sounds, to imprint them with your own identity so to speak. This reminds me of Jonathan Raban's idea of the Soft City...
But why couldn't smooth challenge? Why shouldn't it be used to 'do something'? I mentioned the acts I did in the article because they're taking elements of smooth and are doing something with it.
