There's loads of musicians here i'm sure, what's your setup?
Fender Jazzmaster with custom pickups >>> Boss TU-2 > MXR Blue Box > EHX LPB-1 > ProCo Rat 2 > Home made tremelo > Digitech Digidelay (reverse mode) > Boss DD20 >>> Orange Dual Terror and Marshall 1936 2x12.
Don't use too much other than the LPB and amp gain at the moment!
so I use an iPhone app instead
Fender Jaguar/Squier Telecaster > Boss OS-2 Overdrive/Distortion > EHX Cathedral > Sovtek Big Muff > Boss TR-2 Tremolo > EHX Memory Boy > Boss RV-5 Reverb
Fender Billy Corgan Strat/G&L SC-1/Squier Super-Sonic >>
EHX POG > Boss NS-2 (FX Loop of NS-2 = Korg Pitch Black > Way Huge Fat Sandwich > Loop Switcher [containing vintage EHX Clone Theory and a Danelectro Fish n' Chips] > Subdecay Noise Box, loop ends) > Vintage MXR Flanger > Hardwire DL-8 delay.
Into 60w Genz Benz El Diablo 60 TS head and a Genz Benz 2x12 & a Zilla 2x12.
I could be boring about this all day.
Fender cyclone > Behringer distortion modeller > Behringer superfuzz > Zoom 507 reverb > Arion delay > Carlsbro Cobra Lead (80's amp)
the behringers are definitely stop gaps until I can afford better or do something with the ones in bits on my desk - and bloody need it quick! the 507 is absolutely my favourite pedal ever, brilliant, the 508's go for £130 on ebay. Occasionally I use a DOD multi fx just for basic tremolo/gating/metallic twang sounds but it's a bit unreliable live.
Guitar -> Artec Big Dots Tuner -> MXR Blue Box -> Big Muff Pi (american) -> Vox Wah
The Blue Box is the stupidest, least useful, pedal ever but that just makes me love it even more.
What's it like when the Blend is at maximum or minimum? Cos on the ProGuitarShop demo it seems to track pretty well with Blend at % and makes a good fuzz with it at 100%. But then other demoes just make it look random and crazy.
Particularly if you combine it with some distortion.
on maximum it's glitchy 8-bit bass magic - only really tracks the higher notes tho - depending on where you play the note and how the harmonic content works (middle octaves work best) it will sometimes track the octave so it does sick little jumps between the two. I always use semi-acoustics so the harmonic content seems higher.
I cut out a capacitor that robs it of some of the volume but it means that the tone has an extreme trebly edge. My battered valve amp sounds great with it but plug it into a fender amp and it could well sound pretty nasty with that mod.
It sounds fucking ace thru the wah, some great sounds but the vox wah is annoying in that it robs a lot of the bass-tones out of the guitar, i wanna get a crybaby bass wah.
Thru the big muff it's great too, it smoothes it out a lot and makes it sound a lot more conventionally useful.
On 0% it's just a really extreme fuzz with everything on max and pretty harshly gated. I don't have much use for it, but for the odd little bit it could be good. 50% is really interesting, worth using.
its cheap, true bypass and looks great, but does it do the job?
I'm pretty short-sighted and can see it clearly - it seems to pick up well enough - there can be a bit of a delay with some tuners while it figures the note out.
It took a little bit of time to get used to how picky it is over the tuning, I imagine some people would get annoyed with it. I like that, but I can be pretty anal.
Currently Epiphone Dot with Bareknuckle pickups >> Catalinbread Silver Kiss OD >> Fender Bassman 20.
But after my trip down South I expect to have added - a Blackout Effectors Musket Fuzz, a Diamond Tremolo, a Danelectro 59 and then some reverb and delay pedals later on.
Aria Pro II bass > behringer tuner > custom made fuzz face > boss chorus > nobels tremolo > H/H 50w bass combo amp
Digitech Whammy > Vintage pro co rat > WMD Geiger Counter > Boss OD3 Overdrive > Boss PH3 Phaser > Boss CH2 Chorus > Line 6 DL4 > Boss Slicer > Hi Watt single stack.
I'm getting a Moogerfooger Ring Modulator shortly. I feel I should get a reverb pedal too. I love pedals.
but I use a jazzmaster with sd vintage style pickups or a gretsch g5222 or a telestar mona with a boss me30 multi fx ehx cathedral reverb behringer roto machine (great pedal behringer haters) malekko vibrato ehx pog2 proco rat russian big muff devi ever rocket carl martin surf trem ehx deluxe memory man boss rc20xlline 6 verbzilla danelectro vibe danelectro fabtone and a fender 63 outboard reverb into a rubbish marshall combo or gretsch g222, obviously not all at once. I feel wrong owning all this stuff considering im so mediocre
Anywhoo, set-up is
Fender Custom Tele > EHX Cathedral > Boss DS1 > Digitech DL8 > Korg AX7000G > Line6 DL4 > Fender Blues Junior
Really want to get a Barge feedback looper in there, maybe a Total Sonic Annihiliation and then some kind of Chorus...any recommendations on the Chorus? I play ambient, droney guitar stuff with lots of big noisy parts so I want something that will help everything sound massive and, ideally, doesn't sound horrible and digital.
its reasonably priced and analog and the vibrato pedal they do sounds amazing (makes everything shimmer, especially before reverb), I think chorus and vibrato are basically the same effect just chorus mixes in the dry signal, so maybe try a vibrato. i dont like chorus because it sounds so artifical and glossy but I think that might be digital ones. univibe type pedals make chorusy sounds and they are analog
Thanks for that. Totally agree re chorus as a general rule, but I want some added shimmer. Might go for the vibrato then...I'd read that the EHX Chorus was up there with the best, but listened to some demos on youtube and it sounded fucking horrible.
as that has analog chorus and vibrato modes. rotary pedals are another alternative to chorus
fender jag 72 'crafted in japan' reissue on the bridge circuit board ->mxr distortion plus -> ibanez ad9 analog delay -> 70s 50w Bassman feeding 4*10'' celestions.
really want to get my hands on the moogerfooger ring mod mentioned above! :)
Gordon Smith Double Cutaway (80's built, not sure of exact model)
-> Fender Tuner
-> Digitech Hardwire Valve Distortion
-> Boss Harmonist
-> Boss Super Phaser
-> Akai Headrush
EH Cathedral (badly!!!)
Set up I'm currently using (couple of pedals borrowed from my mate)
Burns Marquee -> Korg DT-10 -> DOD FX65 Chorus -> Arion SAD1 (Analog delay) -> Danelectro PB&J delay -> Yamaha DDSM-20 Digital Delay/Sampler -> Ibanez TS-9 -> Peavey Bandit 112.
Usually have a cheapo Soundtank Overdrive in place of the TS-9 and an Ibanez AD-9 in place of the Arion. Also have a Danelectro Tuna Melt tremolo which I'm not using at the mo.
want to get a POG, a better looper of some description and this bad boy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmWBQgiqjtY
I have a readymade Flickr link to my pedal boards for whenever I get asked this question. What can I say, I'm a total geek for this stuff.
I want one so bad! I have an alesis air fx and a kaossilator and a Kp2 which is in my guitar setup.
Drum machine set up is: Korg Electribe EMX-1 with Koassilator running through it then all through the air fx to the desk
Guitar set up is: Epiphone Sheraton - DD6 - Vox Tonelab SE - KP2 - RC50 - Space Echo pedal - Trace Elliot Tramp.
Want as mentioned above moog ring modulator, Kaossilator Pro and and a POG
they come up on ebay every now and again if you keep your eyes peeled.
The only pedal that i still really want is a Digitech Spacestation. Those things are ridiculous! Every time one comes up on ebay i get excited, but then they end up selling for about £400, which i can't ever really afford :(
The best thing about the Vox tonelab SE is that it has two assignable expression pedals, so you can use it to control feedback on delays, delay times tremelo speeds etc.
Why dont people like real time parameter effects? I bloody love them.
I have one of these too but its too wierd for me http://www.noiseguide.com/product_info/danelectro_shift_daddy
its also the UGLIEST PEDAL I HAVE EVER SEEN!
it's like the Cocteau Twins pedal
maxon ad999 > korg dt10 > timmy > ibanez tube king > boss vb2 > boss dm2 > boss dd5
Hondo guitar w/gold foil pickups + Fat finger.
Korg Pitchblack Tuner > Swollen Pickle Mk2 Fuzz > Ts9 Tube Screamer > EHX Echo 1
