Anyone ever been? Whats it like?
went from 2004 to 2006. Had a whale of a time. Not sure what it's like nowadays, but friends who i went with who went to last year's had a whole lorra fun.
It's relatively cheap ticket price considering the lineup. Obviously travel costs are an issue - I was fortunately travelling from Jersey, but there are bundled 'ferry + ticket' combos from Portsmouth (or Poole, can't remember which).
When I went there was a ridiculous 'No re-entry' policy - ie if you went into the arena, you couldn't leave and come back. Consequently the prices of the beer and food is pretty high within the arena.
As for the location of the festival, it's lovely - an abandoned fort in the middle of Britanny, about 30mins from St Malo by a free shuttle coach, which run regularly (but are often rammed).
Many happy memories from that festival, and delightfully (at least in 2004-06) festival-dickhead-free.
The only ferry package they have at the moment is from Jersey which is unfortunately pretty useless for us. I've emailed them asking if there will be anymore and just waiting to here back.
Im trying to decide whether to go to this or Bowlie 2 but i will inevitably end up at both.
Haven't really looked into the logistics of it yet but my friend lives in Jersey so could combine it with a little trip over to see her. All dependant on flight prices and stuff though.
I'm on the way back from Sweden this day though I guess that doesn't rule it out completely
I want to go.
Bike to France
There is a ferry package from Portsmouth for £119. Details here:
Turns out I cant go anyway because its my dads wedding on the Friday. I asked him to change the date but he wont.
was jolly good craic and all.
One thing: For the love of god pack food. There's only 1 food stall on the entire site that opens before late afternoon if I remember right but yeh.
Campsite Shower Cabin ftw though.
not much choice in the food stalls. Though the kebab place that is open all night is pretty great.
The thing to do is to go to l'hypermarche (oh yes) - the shuttle bus that goes to St Malo also stops off there - get a shitload of food and mega cheap beer and party the night away.
Oh, and one other thing. If you do drugs (you naughty so-and-so). watch out - one year I went french police searched all the buses and incoming vehicles with sniffer dogs, everytime, without fail. Which is weird, because the year before there was basically no searches or security of any kind, and you could get hold of anything. Allegedly. Not sure if they have that policy any more, but... y'know... watch out.
Also make sure you do spend some time in St Malo, it's a really lovely little city.
it was epic, but there's a few things to watch out for. namely that is pricey to drink in the arena, you can't take beers in, also and its quite a way out of town, and there's not much to do at the festival site itself during the day (getting the shuttle bus into town is the way forwards obv). Last year the French Police brethalysed every driver leaving the site also, so that's one to watch out for. All in all it's really quite great though, the ambience and people are lovely, generally the line-up is amazing, and St. Malo with it's excellent beaches is beautiful.
