I fucking love pop music.
Is it a song about Alejandro Morse? If not, I'm not really interested, tbh.
I like the Le Tigre song, but other than that it's just not sharp enough for me.
some sort of pop-savant! srsly, no one has produced so many perfect pop songs in such quick succession since ABBA, and that needed two of them
Alejandro wants to be 'La Isla Bonita' so much it hurts. Fun though Cigarettes and Alcohol is you'd hardly call it a 'perfect' song for happening to ape and rip off a bunch of better songs.
could probably name some more
but britney probs.
and the consistent quality of them. it feels like a single every month and every single one a classic
also, she seems to at least be heavily involved with the writing of the songs.
And as for marketers - well, just no. Everything about her is too freaky, and difficult to connect with. Visually and aesthetically she is difficult - she's all sex but defiantly not SEXY and her videos are totally neurotic and her clothes and demeanor are unattainable.
what's so amazing about it is she doesn't SEEM saleable - can you really imagine the X factor picking up on someone like her, or styling someone like that, or making videos for its new star like that? really? really?!
I remember when she seemed to be about 25% of the top 20. At least Madonna's songs were genuinely incredible. I don't think Gaga's achieved that though she does have some catchy shit, that's for sure.
she doesnt seem saleable to YOU, because you are not a Machiavellian genius who's lifehood depends on it. she's freaky the same way pop punk is rebellious. just enough that the consumer will think thats the reality, and feel some emotional bond for whatever stupid reason. she's not difficult at all. silly clothes? difficult? huh?
"her clothes and demeanor are unattainable." first music star ever to have a life style unattainable by the masses! :D
she doesnt write her own songs, she has a team of stylists to create 'looks' for her . It may well be based on her own expressions I don't really know but it feel's a bit contrived ya know
Oh and I think the songs are crap
And incorrect anyway.
are created by her and her team (assembled by her and with whom she has a longstanding relationship.
Sure a record label and stylists and whatever will be involved too - but that shouldn't detract from the quite obvious brilliance of her image, videos and live shows. Maybe you don't like the songs, maybe she isn't your cup of tea - but criticising her for a lack of creativity is shooting way wide of the mark
do you really think a big label would be encouraging her to be flirting with androgyny and gender bending, sexually neurosis and general Queerness in such an explicit way. Having a sexy gay pop star is one thing. But having somebody who plays with sexuality like this in her visual images in a way that is resolutely NOT SEXY and largely not supposed to be sexy....
And the fashion is WAAAAY beyond record company stylists. srsly.
ALLY ALLY HANDRO
BRILLI BRILLI ANTO
WISHY WISHY PIGPIG
It's "Chiquitita" by Abba, filtered through "Fernando" by the Brotherhood of Man, with a little bit (well, quite a bit, actually) of La Isla Bonita by Madonna (as already mentioned).
Like so many modern songs, it's all about the craft of nicking old tunes and getting away with it.
there's maybe *three* music people i can think of who are genuinely original
'All That She Wants'
by a mile but like the video.
I luff Alejandro tho. I wish I was a hot drag queen soldier called Alejandro.
the video's okay, the song's pretty boring. it sounds a bit like love game crossed with ace of base. gaga's let me down.
"GUNS OR TITS!". boring.
I mean, they're ok. But not the staggering pop classics that some people are making out. She certainly hasn't matched ABBA. She hasn't even done a song as good as Umbrella yet.
ANY gay club - be they pop, indie, dance or be-bop oriented - and tell the crowd during each of the five times the DJ plays Bad Romance that Gaga hasn't released a pop classic...
gay club DJ's as to whether or not a song is a classic, they play Alphabeat and Diana Ross,
It's the same difference as between a label A&R man signing and developing something that he thinks is amazing and the rare occasion that millions of people actually agree with him.
But it hasn't appeared. Can't be bothered to retype it all, but the gist was: there is a difference between one person thinking something is amazing and millions agreeing with him.
%$£&ing *&$! stupid site
what's this got to do with labels? I was talking about your average gay club night DJ who put's on the worst type of shit all night being in comparison with the people that go to that event.
Hence the words "its the same difference as between..."
And in my original post I also pointed out that this happens in all sorts of gay clubs - from the ones that play "the worst type of shit" to the ones that err on the side of the alternative
Bad Romance is easily the best single of the past 5 years
She's got two types of song: you have the 'Just Dance's, the 'Telephone's, the 'Poker Face's, then your 'Bad Romance's and 'Paparazzi's. This one seems to be a less exciting version of the 'Paparazzi' style, which is trying to be made more exciting by the flashy video and the countdown hype thing. She's usually substance + style, but this time it's just style.
the music video for this song was really wierd...
Just ripping off Madonna now.
The video's in bad taste. Is that an upside-down cross shape they've made out of the red tape over her ****, perchance? Certainly looks like it...
especially the tape! silliness.
The song is catchy though
and I actually don't mind her (ignoring all the OTT stylistic gubbins) but one of her (team's) poorer efforts so far I'd say.
