Following on from our April show with The Wave Pictures David Tattersall, we present...
Sam Airey is a 22 year old folk artist originally from the Isle of Anglesey. He released his debut EP Season’s Change in March 2010. Recorded at Mook Studios, Leeds in November 2009 and produced by Whiskas (iForward, Russia!/DTTR), this five-track release sees Sam combine folk-storytelling with the exploration of lyrical themes inspired both by his upbringing in rural North Wales and his move to the city of Leeds some four years ago, where he has since remained.
Drawing influence from contemporary and traditional folk music along with country and Americana, Sam plays a variety of instruments, but is sometimes joined by friends, both in studios and on stages. Gaining an increasing amount of plaudits, including Steve Lamacq (Radio 2), his live performances have garnered comparisons to such notable songsmiths as Nick Drake, Conor Oberst and Fionn Regan.
The duo like breadcrumbs, leave a trail of charming quips and notes behind their songs whilst ever engrossing you further into their world. Playing the always haunting cello, and often an array of oddly yet innovatively used non-instruments, they can entice even the hardened-eared music lover with such romanticism.
Evanjack is the fledgling musical project of independant singer/songwriter Scott Cousins who is based in London and has recorded live session’s for BBC Wales and Balcony TV.
Andre Fu and D.Maul – a blend of toe-tapping, dream-weaving delights: Americana; folk; 60’s soul; down-tempo electronica, the rock and (not forgetting) the roll from across the eras.
markisegg – pop, fuzz and folk, but only the good eggs.
See you down the front.
