Only one word to describe this, fierce !
And it must have been the first Underworld track I've taken notice of in about 12 years (or whenever I first heard King of Snake.)
released anything duff that I remember..
Tangential question: have Underworld ever released anything else like dubnobass... (and Rez)? I've only ever listened to dubnobass, Second Toughest and Oblivion — how do the others compare?
I wasn't super impressed with Oblivion, and Second Toughest is certainly a good album, but it's no dubnobass... I take it that after whatsisface left, they moved away from the more trancey sound?
has some pretty euphoric moments
the older rawer ravey bits and stuff like One Month Off, which is a pretty sweet place to be.
I've often thought I should give Beaucoup Fish a go.
I don't know if it's just me, but dubnobass sounds "darker" than the other stuff I've heard. Does that ring true for you? If so, how would Beaucoup Fish compare on that level?
there are some dark and intense moments but there are some quite blissed out ones too, its not as dark as dubno... it kind of flows thru a few moods really.
albums but are pretty darn good. Not sure I'd compare to any other period. I don't like comparing that much.
Peggy Sussed 12"
Play Pig 12"
Jal to Tokyo 12"
and some cracking online ep's as well :
I'm a Big Sister, and I'm a Girl, and I'm a Princess, and This Is My Horse
Pizza for Eggs
Lovely Broken Thing
In terms of having a few bangers, a lot of variation etc. Well worth a listen at least. it's usualyl about £2 on Amazon Marketplace now
will look into it.
Still not sure though - it's a bit 'Two months off' crossed with Pendulum. The earlier, instrumental version they were playing live was LOADS better so hope that the non-radio edit version has a wicked, extended 8 minute outro.
God I love Underworld though. Amazing band...
were playing it live, about 5 years ago wasn't it !
It was tucked away on those free live recordings they released between albums. They give away loads of great free stuff on their site...
Did you hear the full-length on Tong? It's not got the "Small Conker and a Twix" build-up, but it's still a return to vintage 'world.
I'll have to check it out, ta!
and wasn't bothered about checking out any new Underworld untill I saw this... new colab album: http://www.factmag.com/2010/06/07/underworld-announce-new-album-dubfire-appleblim-and-more-feature/
1. Bird 1 (additional production by Dubfire)
2. Always Loved A Film (a/p Mark Knight & D. Ramirez)
3. Scribble (a/p High Contrast)
4. Hamburg Hotel (a/p Appleblim & Al Tourettes)
5. Grace (a/p Dubfire)
6. Between Stars (a/p Mark K & D. Ramirez)
7. Diamond Jigsaw (a/p Paul van Dyk)
8. Moon In Water (a/p High Contrast)
Appleblim & Al Tourettes are really good, wouldn't mind hearing that one. Can;t stand High Contrast or Paul van Dyk though.
New Tourettes on ISP is ace as well, looking forward to checking that track out.
As you say, not exactly enamoured with the idea of High Contrast or Paul Van Dyk though...
last time I checked he made bad electro/nu-school breaks hybrids.
