the rolling stones or radiohead or talking heads instead please.
he's already playing. someone better/different please.
Given the amount of money U2 would have taken off the bill, it needs to be someone good, not slot adjustments, if it was 2 days before I'd let them off for that, but there are plenty of bands who'd fill the slow I am sure.
Saying that most mainstream stadium bands I don't like one bit, so probably won't effect me at all.
so if it isnt any of the 3 i mentioned, i'll probably miss them anyway.
either going to be coldplay ( as a favour to the Eavis's) or d.rascal ( the most likely option IMO).
Eavis only pays 300k for headliners. 1 month beforehand, which major touring band can he get for that price to headline? Coldplay is the only major, feasible option because they would be willing to leave the studio and do the festival a favour.
is dizzee rascal likely, at all?
what are REM up to? the strokes have just started rehearsing now as well. cou7ld end up with the mick hucknall fronted faces.
bet he was trying to give himself a self congratulatory blow-job...
I came her to post the same thing.
He's touring, doing Roskilde the following week
id be quite disappointed, stick with prince ; )
The greedy purple fucker costs way too much. As mentioned above Glastonbury only pays a few hundred thousand.
I loved LP but I don't think I like the dirction they're going in now. I wish they carried on being mental...
It worked out well the last time they were draftedin to headline at the last minute.
but for "big rock spectacular", it doesn't a get a lot better. Even if their last album (and half of the one preceding it) were rubbish.
This now means I'll be watching The Flaming Lips (whom I'd normally choose if it was "one gig or the other"), so no major quibbles. We could all be cocks about this or would could say "get well soon Bono". I think the latter is preferable, uncynical type that I try to be.
Simply Red are touring at the moment. I'm not going, but I assume that would be a pleasing replacement to those who are. I might email Michael Eavis now and suggest it
As Damian says up there, they (or Bono) maybe be hated by many, but they seem to be peerless with regards the whole epic rock show thing...no-one can really step into their shoes in this respect...
Oasis to reform.
And instead reformed At the Drive-In to piss off all the indie rock types who naturally weren't there and distress all the U2 fans who were.
ATDI were a band largely about the energy and, in retrospect, the friction between the band members. Take that away, throw in ten years of them all making horrible horrible music and it sounds like a disaster.
I love ATDI but some things should be left in the past.
or they could just put someone random in. who knows? who cares? the bootleg beatles are on anyway.
though i would have liked to have seen that particular song i must say.
i mean they even wrote a song 'specially for it. how sweet.
The mainstage needs a crowd-magnet so that I can watch the Flaming Lips with the fearless freaks.
Now what've we got? A bigger, more mainstream crowd for the Lips? I even heard a rumour they might be asked to step up to the Pyramid, which they could do with aplomb, but again... bigger, less interested crowd.
Here's hoping they can get Coldplay in so that I can go back to not worrying about the Pyramid and looking forward to the race for the prize.
to the toyota prius charcoal briquette tuck your tshirt in your shorts brigade?
Might not be a bad shout, given he's headlining Hard Rock Calling on the Sunday night...
And never going to happen. I bet no one replaces them and push Dizzee up top
First Kyle, then Bono, and eventually someone else who fits the pattern we've made up.
..... if Ian Brown/John Squire have messages on their answering machines yet?
But yeah it's a massive blow for Glastonbury, U2 aren't one of my fave bands on record but seriously they're the best stadium band i've ever seen, they wipe the floor with say R.E.M. I think they'd have played an absolute fucking blinder.
I can understand people liking them and them having a cracking live show but seriously they've never done anything for me.
For me, glasto 2003 with Radiohead and REM was like a dream come true.
That would be BRILLIANT.
they should get Bono's best mate, ex-Virgin Prune & U2's "creative consultant" Gavin Friday to front U2 for one night only... ;)
meh. It'd be odd if they offered it to Dizzee Rascal, maybe not so much if he hadn't played last year, but (although I wasn't gonna watch U2 anyway) it might be too small an act in comparison. People will moan whatever it is. I'd be more likely to watch Kylie than U2.
Pulp? Daft Punk? Prince? Outkast? Skint and Demoralised?
didnt the Kinks play the first Glastonbury or something? And Ray Davies is already there. Reformed Kinks?
on Twitter that it could be Kylie.
It was always implied that she'd play at some stage to make up for the year she dropped out, wasn't it? I'm surprised she hasn't already.
Their time has come.
Rage against the Machine would be nice, but probably a bit loud.
When was the last time they played though - '95?
Would definitely be amazing as they're superb live.
Seeing as Hard Rock Calling had 2 of the same headliners as Glasto last year, I could see Macca as a good option... Or if even Pearl Jam.
Now or never!!!
they've just booked Neil McCormick.
... I've just noticed Snap! are playing the WOW! tent...
they played Rhythm is a dancer, twice.
