it appears I've been missing out.
Not uncommon to get into them too late. I fell in love with Boxer 8 months after I picked it up.
I was about a year late too. I assume you are starting with High Violet?
Luckily, they are still touring a lot, and Europe/London later in the year. Get yourself a ticket - they're amazing live.
but I can't let it go unsaid that *live*, they really are one of the most boring bands I've ever seen. Top 3:
1. The Organ
2. The Waves Pictures
3. The National
but it's okay dear, you rant away; it's good for the soul.
The performances of Squalor Victoria and Slow Show = mindblowing.
Have you only ever seen 3 bands live?
Also proof that the national are not boring live:
I actually just had to wipe my monitor down to get the charisma off it.
The main problem is the singer is such a massive poseur.
It's hardly like watching a hipster band.
Saw them on Jools Holland on Friday, Bloodbuzz Ohio really blew me away I must say. I'm still struggling to understand how i've missed out thus far but at least I can listen to them retrospectively. The drummer is amazing, well busy!
in 08 kinda boring...erm, maybe not boring but not like I'd remembered them... and I'll let you know on Friday for HV tour :)
Had an mp3 of 'Abel' for ages without checking anything else out - enjoying what I've heard so far! With the added bonus that the wife seems to hate it...
I mean, I agree, they are, but I worry that the backlash merchants are massing and preparing an assault. A bit like the Uruk-Hai army that Sauruman breeds to destroy the horse-folks.
I can't get beyond his monotone boring voice. Granted I've only listened to Boxer but his vocals just make it all sound pedestrian and samey.
and not his, and that's unforgivable.
