Thought some of you might enjoy this blog http://www.pitchforkreviewsreviews.com/
After reading that thing for about 10 seconds my head started to hurt. Dude needs to chillax. He seems to be 'doin' it wrong.'
I mean it's a music review site - I quite like it.
I wouldn't take it's word as law but if a record gets a good rep on there, and here and (e.g.) cokemachineglow then you can make an educated guess that it may well be 'the bomb'.
I like it. Decent writing for the most part, and I really don't think that they're "thought of as the worst of the worst coolhunting snobs, holier-than-thou Comic Book Guys, and that their site is by far the most loathed entity in relevant alternative culture", except by the kind of moron who sets up a blog for the exact purpose of saying that.
Ripfork did it first, did it better, and that got old fast enough. He's blatantly just bitter cos he got turned down by Pitchfork.
"some notes on the pitchfork re: hipster runoff column (nitsuh abebe’s why we fight #3)"
that + the page design = close tab instantly
"today as i was looking over the current pitchfork homepage for new stuff i hadn’t read yet, it struck me that the layout and colors and spacing and sizing and alignments of the pitchfork homepage THEMSELVES are such (a combination of) gorgeous things, like a masterstroke of web design, so pleasurable to the eye by itself that sometimes i just gaze at the homepage for a few extra seconds before clicking something."
it does looks pretty good, but jesus, come on.
He hates the writing but he masturbates to the home page. He just wants to use p4k as a sex object.
My only beef with p4k is that people use it as the end-all be-all of music discovery. People just need to remember that its OK not to agree with them, and that it's OK to develop your own taste outside of what they feed you. If you use it as one of many sources then its fine, otherwise everything becomes homogenized real quick in the scene. DiS boards have been the best source for me over the last few years
Just like any site, some content is great, some is crap, but most often falls somewhere in the middle.
If you check p4k, the DiS boards, TMT and CMG against each other you're gonna find most of the best modern music.
For music that's usually cooler to read about than to listen to.
And a bunch of hip hop forums and blogs.
Also, Resident Advisor is great, and just as (if not more) 'pretty' as Pitchfork.
Aside from here, are pretty much the best places to go.
"I don't even know any more"
and he knows the last two bands to get 9.0 or above for their debut.
He knows the intricacies of P4K TOO WELL to even attempt at criticising it for being....anything. I dunno. What a douchebag.
