Yes it is.
Probably about the same at the moment, it's far far more interesting though and prettier.
On the outside it looks a bit different but in the end it's just plain old shit.
which is silly, cos it's bad.
But they kind of went in completely the oposite direction I was hoping. I always really liked that they could get a long groove going and build songs around that. But they've gone for full on indie songs instead of grooves and I always thought they sucked at making actual songs. I thought they had loads of room to expand and improve the groove thing as well. Is the rest of the album long drawn out indie fodder that doesn't do anything like those two songs or do they step it up a bit? I'm currious still...
I couldn't go trough it. almost collapsed out of boredom.
there being one good beat or rhythm, only a couple of awful ones.
with single guitar hits playin off each other with teh drums n bass. They nailed it a coupled of times but I thought they where gonna expand on that and really pull it off this time instead of giving up and going really wimpy.
I like the band, they obviously have good taste in music and are good musicians but only a few songs have really grabbed me thus far. I'll keep listening to them because I honestly feel they have got a couple of stone cold classic albums in them. Would like to hear a 40 minute instrumental jam or sumfink a but more experimental. Close but no cigar thus far!
I've listened to it about seven times now waiting to 'get' it but it's still really boring
They should just try and make songs that sound like Hummer, forever
I liked the Mount Kimbie remix of that new track better as it perked it all up a bit and gave it some progression. They did a mad funky drum pattern at the end as well, which sounds really cool.
thought it was a bit boring, the more crafted interesting songs are better.
songs with grooves are a bonus too, but you gotta have grooves.
I've always been a songs bro, maybe all the groove people have been deserted
I like songs to, I just like grooves more. I'm still intruiged though. If it comes up for stream somewhere I'll give it a good listen. I've always though Foals where one to watch they've got good taste and ideas, they just haven't executed it in a way thats really grabbed me yet. So close...
very good and makes me want to sculpt cats.
if the album is anything like that, then it'll be terrible too.
but the rest of the album isn't like that
Why anyone would find them interesting or think that their music is a good use of the limited time a person has on this planet.
because it is a quality album apart from maybe the two songs that have been released from it.
Mount Kimbie and Strakey to remix them though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5YlYFX-SU8&feature=player_embedded If it gets them some added exposure then its a bonus. Those artists are kind of special.
sickly guitars, 'grooves' etc
after This Orient it sorta loses my interest
i'm not convinced by what i've heard so far, but i haven't listened to the whole thing yet.
stop listening to it. i think it's a fantastic progression from the 'antidotes' sound. it feels more focussed and as though it has a definite 'direction', something that i feel antidotes was missing.
First song starts off sounding really like Fleet Foxes! Wasn't expecting that. But then stops sounding like Fleet Foxes. Personally i'm quite indifferent to Foals but nice to hear him singing and not yelping.
can't see it, maybe it's not acessible to irish users
miami is probably the worst song i've ever heard in my life.
things pick up after track 3 though...shame the album doesn't start from there, first three tracks feel like b-side filler.
does anyone else imagine a boy band in tank tops doing a dance in the rain with big arty explosions in the background and rain on their pecs?...like Blue or summit, doing a funny little dance..
and everything kicks in it sounds exactly like a Finlay Quaye song. that is all.
i can't quite put my finger on what exactly.
there's a little prince mixed in too for awful measure..
And vastly superior to the trite debut.
its a very good album, better than antidotes IMHO. Thought the DIS review was a bit conservative, definitely 8 out of 10 for me.
I really like it
Some really solid songs on there and lots of groove and guitar flourishes. As someone else said, the two singles are among the worst tracks on the album, well This Orient is anyway, I do like Spanish Sahara.
I listened to 'Blue Blood' and was pleasantly surprised at how the band had progressed and was bopping my head around to it. Didn't think much of the Foals and have no great admiration for 'Antidotes'.
Then 'Miami' kicked in and I involuntarily kicked my chair into the corner of the room and started dancing my ass off.
That's music ladies and gentlemen. THAT. IS. MUSIC.
Whatever you think of it, it is almost certainly not the "worst song you have ever heard". God knows what your music collection looks like if that's the case.
Reminds me of pop era 'Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me' Cure stuff. Wicked track. Absolutely superb.
And then there's 'Total Life Forever'... *sigh*, I have a pretty good feeling I'm gonna love this album people.
I'm reading that it's sound is quite different from "Antidotes". Well, that's what I liked, that's Foals, isn't it? And "prettier"? Well, that doesn't sound like Foals to me then. It's like the 2nd These New Puritans album, wtf? I guess bands nowadays can't cut it past the first dozen songs they write. It's not because they're "eclectic", it's because they don't have a "sound".
I'm going back to my Fall albums & my Little Richard singles.
took me by surprise. Was scratching my head trying to remember the song/band.
think they do it in total life forever.
but After Glow is one of the best songs I've heard recently. It's the one moment where they just cut the rhythm section loose and have some fun.
Not heard, but the first album was fucking dogshit. Shit band.
Goes in a dreamier direction than the first yet sounds much more filled out (compliments to luke smith). For me the artwork sums it up, it's an album you can immerse yourself in (particularly 2 trees and blue blood).
Black Gold is great
