Not necessarily old songs, just songs that capture the feeling of recollecting past memories.
Symposium - Fairweather Friend
British Sea Power - It Ended on An Oily Stage
All them are summer anthemz.
Although 3 Colours Red and Feeder would be in the same category for me - they were all active when I was about 15/16 and getting into what I thought was 'proper' music.
pretty much all of that EP
zappa/mothers of invention/ruben and the jets - fountain of love
it's ace to walk determindly to.
add to that Million Dead - To whom It May Concern/Breaking The Back
Pavement - Old TO Begin
Minus The Bear - Fly Honey Warehouse
feels like i've always known that song
Hot Chip - Take It In
New Order - Ceremony
Bloc Party - Kreuzberg
Something by Maps probably
Other stuff too.
Orange Juice- Blue Boy
Two Gallants- Steady Rollin'
Also loads of shit indie guitar music from 2007, which I hated but was subjected to when playing loads of gigs. So kinda good times/bad times there.
but Davids Last Summer by Pulp really captures that fuzzy '6th form summer' feeling. Such an underrated song, that. I love it when it goes "And we went driving..." and then the funky arpeggiated synth comes in. I wish I'd had summers like that when I was young. Sigh.
How You Remind Me
In The End
The Way I Am
+ J.Lo's 'Waiting For Tonight'
My dad played it for me when I was 10 years old and it changed my life. I made my friend listen to it once when he was on acid and later on he thought my fridge was trying to eat him and he ran away.
he was just afraid of the fridge.
left many scarred.
Everything about that album screams nostalgia.
reminds me of happy university times.
Nothing gets crossed out
This has that looking back foggy feeling. It's about the only Smashing Pumpkins song that I don't gag on these days.
The whole thing.
His Shadows Collide with People album in particular.
M83 to a certain extent too
Also Nice Dream by Radiohead.
'9pm till I come' reminds me of an encounter I had with a girl at an end of term party. Hearing it to this day brings it all back and makes me feel rather nauseous.
Hummer - Foals
Mayonaise - Smashing Pumpkins
4 - Aphex Twin
Masters of War - Bob Dylan
Idioteque - Radiohead
Dead Womb - Death From Above 1979
Skelechairs - Venetian Snares
The Marshalls Are Dead - Bloc Party
There are probably a hundred more. Oh and Asleep - The Smiths
cos it hasn't progessed since I was a kid when first heard it. Some house and a bit of techno too. Hell even lots of hip-hop, the stuff with breakbeats esspecialy. That all makes me feel like I've heard it before. Some stuff like: Joker and Ikonika, makes me feel nostalgic and of the moment, which is the best combo ever! I wana feel like a kid now cos of amazing music that makes me loose it rarther than remind me of a time when I was an acctual kid. Which is why I hate anything that reminds me of Britpop. Apart from 3 Lions that one is still a banger...
Kelis, Destiny's Child and TLC being good does it too. Beyonce has been mostly shite apart from Videophone since Destiny's Child. Crazy In Love and ummmm thats it have all been kind of short living jams that get annoying fairly quick. That beat on Videophone is so BIG, I can see it being played in clubs for years, not just pop clubs either. Bangladesh killed it and made the only Beyonce hit worth listening too for years. It doesn't even matter that Gaga is on that beat, its that good! She cant take the energy away from it... Its one of those beats anyone could jump on and it would be good. Its just Beyonce got a hook and the mainstream on it first. Its like A Milli by Lil Wayne, any fucker can jump on that beat (and they have) and it sounds good it just took someone to push it a little.
especially Sometimes and I Only Said.
Brian Eno, Joy Division (particularly Atmosphere), M83 (especially Saturday = Youth), Beach House have a really nostalgic sound.
Slowdive - When the sun hits
Weezer - Blue album
LCD Soundsystem - Someone Great and All my Friends
remind of ibiza and my family. They had a wedding there and I played those trax in the villa to lots of friends/fam in the sun and it went down so well. Not so keen on the tunes anymore but that memory is safe.
Absolutely top class, sticks me right back in the summer between year 11 and 12. Ditto Morning View era Incubus, and a fair amount of the pop punk type stuff that was massive then.
And Ball and Biscuit by the White Stripes.
I could go on for dayyys
Pretty much anything that was on the My So Called Life soundtrack, and anything that was a staple on 90s Alternative Nation when Toby Amies presented it. Oh, so, Wynonnas Big Brown Beaver too then.
Range Life, same with Gold Soundz.
reminds me of mario kart/goldeneye sessions and not revising for my exams.
I've ever heard, EVER, is Goin Back, the Byrds version.
by Scott Walker.
Also pretty much all of the first Go! Team album, especially everyone's a vip to someone.
