A Belgian girl who can sing like a reggae man, really ought to be listened to by everyone: http://www.myspace.com/selahsuemusic
Not popular, not even a band. Still AMAZING.
Not a band as such, and hardly known at all. Saw her live at the Borderline a few days ago and found her performance to be magical. The headline act The Tiny were quite wonderful too, in their Newsomesque way.
and pete molinari.
for a start
I'm so indie and dont like stuff you lot do. ooo i'm so cool aren't I. Ooo
I'm so indie it's like you read my mind. Ooo
are rad, they play quite a lot so go check em out live if you get the chance.
Compared to most of the bands here they are megastars, but still should be much more popular than they were/are. In my opinion, that is.
the cast of glee. i would've agreed, those kids need some exposure
Truly amazing? Check.
Should be popular but really aren't? Check.
Sika Redem (although they havent been upto much recently)
such an amazing debut album, so little recompense. I'd put Heavy Ghost up there with Veckatimest, Merriweather and Bitte Orca without a doubt.
I'd also say Nosaj Thing, though i think his popularity is starting to grow- another really overlooked artist and debut album last year. And i know they are popular, but wolf parade should be up there with the biggest names in indie music alongside Arcade Fire etc
band from manilla who are influenced by jonaton richmon/velvet underground etc, absoloutely amazing band! check this out
Problems are depressed
A lot of these beat makers are slow burners Drift was only his debut I think he'll keep on the rise for a while yet.
I would have said Wolf Parade some years ago but the follow up to Apologies is kind of bad, I'm hoping they restore my faith in indie music a bit with their next one cos Broken Soical Scene failed hard at that recently, from people I really dug way back when...
he needs much more love, Drift is really great.
it takes a quite a bit for anyone in the scene to push thru though. FlyLo has only just got everyones ear after the last two albms, including mine pretty much. But everything he did before, esspecialy the Reset EP is pure gold. Tea Leaf Dancing should have been a genre wide classic the day it dropped. But things don't go like that for dance music even on one of the biggest independant lables around Warp records. Slow burners are how things are done and disp-ite the odd track/ep/album getting a little less exposure it works alright. I mean in dance circles Burial is a big time instant hit... His first album even got MASSIVE guaridain coverage. But he's a slow burner. Beastie Boys: 'Slow and low thats the tempo!'.
Live at Shakori festival in North Carolina: http://en.justin.tv/tourcast/b/262770123
those are band I really love that not many others seem to care about.

thunderous post-rock from Manchester.

Shield Your Eyes
Shoulda been the biggest bestest band in the whole wide world, but just kinda evaporated. Imagine stadium straddling ambition, but married to actual, heavens to betsy songs
