compiling my dreamlist at the moment, who are everyone else's faves?
so maybe they could do the same with Twilight Sad but it might be a long shot, bands seem to be a lost cause when it comes to working with established electronic peeps. http://www.foals.co.uk/splashpage.html < Mount Kimbie added some much needed vibes to that track mind, its a kind of vapid vacuum of nothingness untill the remix switches it up a bit at the end and brings some rhythm with that clicky R&B production. I'd rarther see them do their own thing than work with others, they've got more going on than most, so much going on musicaly as well as production wise, they come as the full package. Bands need to catch up and do it themselves like the electroinc guys have learnt to do if they want to start pushing boundries again. Bands have got lazy and started slacking in the last 20 years when they started getting cash thrown at them. You have to wonder whan full on bands are doing when kids on fruity loops make more inovative music. Braaaap.
and I played him a Mount Kimbie track and he was like, 'oh these are the dudes that did that Foal remix', so even though it's not their best work, I guess it's getting them the attention they deserve so good for them, really.
I think they'd be better off working with someone like Fennesz, or maybe at a stretch These New Puritans, god love the Twilight Sad, but I dunno, they just seem a little straight-forward for Mount Kimbie.
seems like another self contained sonic unit as well, all the production and music is done at once by the same person.
You gotta love the indie remix for getting people hype, it brings baggage though when you just get people turning up to clubs to hear a certain track. They take over and ruin the vibe half the time. I mean look at Joy Orbison sets now, people just go mad for Hyph and hardlt take notice with the rest. Other DJs just get confused when they're on the same bill and play big up n coming tracks liuke normal and get blanked by a corwd full of day trippers. It really takes the nights off ballance. It has a bad effect even if it doesn't mean to. I want loads of people to dig this stuff as much as anyone but when the noobs take over it really deads things out and they wander about like lost cows and push the heads away. No one means for it to happen but you can really see/feel it when its happening. Its another thing that pushes the heads to look for newer and newer sound, cos they move away from that herd again and the good time party vibes come back to the places that have found that mad new sound. Its a kind of servival haha.
what where we talking about?
apologies for my ignorance of them!
They're just a duo making beats at the moment, but they've got so much going on musicaly I wouldn't be suprised if they branched out at some point, maybes not for a while though. Debute album dropping in July on Hotflush, HUGE news I'm trying not to think about to much or I'll explode. Good job the rest of the scene is just as good or I'd be at a lost end, serriously check more out haha.
they had a guitar going all through the set. does that make them a guitar band? it's interesting at that gig they were advertised as post-Dilla beat stuff and played a set of post-rock atmospherics, whereas on record, they're a perfect mixture between the two.
Can't imagine them producing someone else, their sound is too idiosyncratic for the moment.
