Bimbos and meatheads, they are
Thanks for letting me know I knew fuck all about music, though. Glad to know that. I'll go back to my Cartoonz and Aqua albums now.
he's talking about Cartoonz, the pop group.
I was referring to the Cartoons of "Witch Doctor" fame.
I'm off to stab a puppy now.
and I even (god forbid) used to be one, and most of them dont know too much about music
what a terrifying thought! that's why i post on drownedinsound all day every day, farttttttzzzzzzz
when they start persistently trying to convince you Muse are by in large the pinnacle of rock music, the best thing since queen and you "don't get them" because they are soooo experimental. But they can't back it up because they are comparing it all on the basis of mainstream rock fodder.
Muse are mediocre at best but are great live, thats my opinion on them.
YES I REALISE THE IRONY
looks like he has the eyes of a horseshoe crab transplanted into a human head.
looks like he has the mouth of a lamprey and two rat turds for eyes.
I just find that they (sweeping generalization afoot) don't have a massive frame of musical reference.... and they're often short.
None of them.
none at all
I've ever had with a Muse fan is seeing them argue who's better, Muse or Radiohead, on every. Single. Radiohead Youtube video. It's compelling reading.
However I have no complaint with grammar on boards. Except the use of numbers for words.
It's an artform in itself.
Have you all actually met Muse fans who talk at length about them being the Pinnacle Of Rock Music? I haven't, because THEY DON'T EXIST. I have met Muse fans though.
Every band has its annoying fans. I just hate people who fervently worship anything a band does - that's especially annoying when the band are, in my opinion, rubbish or mediocre.
I try to remain objective even about bands I love so if a band I really like make a crap album I'm perfectly prepared to accept and admit that fact.
But like everyone I am also a massive hypocrite.
I've been accused of being 'insane' for not liking Muse on a number of occasions now. Pretty surreal.
BEen away...een away....n away....away.....way....way.....ay.....ay...y...?
and are far more musically inventive.
d) I do not think that muse are the pinnacle of rock music
e) I do think that they do push some envelopes till they are bulging to bursting though
f) I think that muse are great fun
WHAts the problem with that?
Music does not have to be po faced.
Also: Music that is overblown and pretentious is ALWAYS superior to music that isn't. I'd rather watch Dragonforce play a million widdly solos while singing about fantasy battles in made up places WHILE jumping on trampolines, than have to suffer through any of the po-faced, 3-chord, emo nonsense that represents the supposed alternative.
To say that "they dont know anything about music" is ridiculous and is not the type of thing a true music fan would say about a bands fans.Alot of you are coming across as massive cunts.
Do you not think the Muse and Kasbian fans know all there is to know about them, is that not considered knowing something about music? Just because they dont know about broken social scene does not mean that they only listen to chart music.
Worry about yourself and not what others like.
the answer to those questions is 'who cares, they don't have to'
facts be damned!
...massive cunts you were referring to skelly. I find it hard to take the opinion of someone who likes Suede seriously.
But get over it man. I'm not ashamed to say I like some of Kasabian's stuff - they're ok - hence the fact I only have one of their albums. But I also like The National, Broken Social Scene and many others of the so called sub-mainstream.
Your assertion that people need to dig to find these bands is patently ridiculous. Pick up any music magazine or newspaper this month and High violet will be reviewed in there.
I agree there are people out there who say they love music but passively like it spoonfed to them but I doubt there are many Muse fans out there that are actually in that category.
There's the great Muse of songs like 'Space Dementia', 'Stockholm Syndrome' (add more if you want, I'll add 'Fury' and a few other b sides) and then there's the crap Muse - All of the last LP, for example.
Muse fans don't always distinguish between the two. Sad but true.
The Muse fans TODAY know fuck-all about music, because they've been shipped in by bullshit *ahem* I mean, Twilight. People who have followed Muse since the beginning, or even since before the invasion of Twilight will have at least some grip on music, I do, and I've been a fan of Muse since Showbiz in 1999.
and i know loads about music. I don't think they're the pinnacle of rock music by any means but they are fantastic live and a great band. I also like a lot of Kasabian stuff. This thread is daft man. Muse fans are not limited to people who only look as far as the charts for musical taste.
someone just posted this excellent cover of Supermassive Blackhole on my facebook:
It's a totally epic thread, don't you think?
Muse's demographic covers the fringes of both the Alt/pop world.
Their fans presumably mostly follow suite.
So they're not alt enough for the alts, inhabit the same sphere, to the annoyance of the alts, as we have seen...
And not pop enough for the pops, which is why their singles always start on the B or C list on radio 1.
Combine this with the fact that the lead singer could be described as a 'virtuoso' of more than one instrument and this is often the focus of their live shows (frowned upon by alts) and the fact that they're a fairly decent rock band who put on a great show i.e 'a gateway band', alts have to distance themselves from stuff they liked when they were 15.
Which leads me on to my next point:
Muse fans = worst kinds of people
Muse fans = Mostly enthusiastic teenagers
worst kinds of people = mostly enthusiastic teenagers
So you're basically saying you hate enthusiastic teenagers. Because you're a dick.
Anyway, take that, The Past. I reasoned the fuck outta this debate.
the worst kind of people are really red hot chili peppers fans. right, yes_?
Live and let live, fuckers
(the worst people are Skrewdriver fans btw - maybe Scouting For Girls if I'm being a bit vindictive)
yes_'s post above is pretty much on the mark although I'd argue both OOS and Absolution are very good rock albums on any level.
PICK UP MY BOOK I READ BUKOWSKI
other typical views seen on here include: "i like indie, therefore i know LOADS about music"
and "it's alright, i've followed them since the start and didn't bandwagon, so i'm allowed to like them"
What am I doing reading this crap?hahahaah
...perhaps as a consequence of their success which is notable even if it is nauseating for some of us. After all, if you weren't that fussed about Muse at the beginning and you've had to watch them gain more and more popularity and success then you'll find a mild disaffection can quickly become frustrated contempt.
More than this, you often find people who don't really do much more than dip their toe into 'indie rock', are "into Muse" - they have the T-shirts and and other merchandise paraphernalia to prove it right..?
Now this doesn't include everyone and there are still quite a few Muse fans who have more to say and more of a greater interest in music than chart rock, but they are not the only ones. Oasis fandom is similarly bisected and this tends to generate the same infuriated and/ or cynical dismissal. Bloc Party has this too and perhaps to greater and lesser extents, many indie bands who've broken their way through onto the stadiums and the popular consciousness.
Muse stopped being cool for a lot of people when they became a big brand and no one was surprised to hear their name when you mentioned them anymore because every fucker in the universe has heard of them. At least with Radiohead, their is a sort of tribalism that holds the fans together as we're all seen as snobby, pretentious types and the band is still considered strangely niche for anyone outside of the indie sphere - Muse hasn't got that. They're about as niche as Burger King.
Most musos I knew described them as sub-radiohead copycat wankers back then. Which is at least an improvement on sub-Queen copycat wankers but still, they were never cool...
YOU ARE ALL REALLY INDIE AND STUFF!
p.s. muse blow now
P.P.S. Music fans are the worst kind of people*
that I can find fault with
YOU ARE REALLY STICKING IT TO ALL THE INDIE FAGS!
There was a blank wall in the Biology Dept. of our school. Now I decided to graffiti this wall, (because it was blank, duh), with jokes and little drawings. Then my friends started joining in. Then their friends etc. until we had two walls full of jokes and other crap. It was brilliant. Until some bastard decided to put Muse Rules onto the wall. Then more people decided to put Muse Rules on the wall. Then one day, I went to Biology to find the whole wall covered in a giant MUSE logo, with other smaller Muse ones, meaning none of the original comments could be read. The walls been now painted over. But if you squint you can still make the vague outline of MUSE.
Now I can't say this is general of all Muse fans, but I can say that the Muse fans in my school are pricks.
NOT ALLOWING YOU TO GRAFFITI. FASCIST CUNTS
