From over at Pitchfork. Fairly epic is that. I like it, though it does sound a lot like NIN with a bird singer.
like NIN with a bird singing... Even the vocal melody is archetypal Reznor. Not necessarily a bad thing, of course.
The beat behind it all bothers me somewhat though, or the mixing of it relative to the vocals (or something). Normally Moulder's mixing is pretty faultless though, can't quite figure it out...
but I'm still not judging anything, patiently waiting for more to listen to.
an incredibly hot girl, it has to be said — but it does leave you wanting some Reznoresque vocals. And a bit of ear-pulverising industrial guitar/noise.
Having said that, given the general hotness of Maandig, I'm amazed that Reznor has managed to record and release anything at all.
A hell of a lot. Looks like he's pursuing the general neo-trip hop/dubstep-ish sounds he promised with Year Zero, only with his feminine vocal facsimile singing. The song is pure Reznor structure, after all, but Maandig's cadence matches his amazingly well.
