We are 1/3 of the way through 2010: tracks of the year so far, then
Four months down. A considerable number of my favourite albums in '10 feel bloated in parts and often are pushing the 60 minute mark, if not exceeding it. Nothing wrong with this in practise but it makes a 35min commute into the centre of town fucking annoying to soundtrack.
That doesn't mean to say that some killer tracks have been scattered in amongst the often overwrought heavyweight LPs of the year so far. For me Titus Andronicus' 'A More Perfect Union' and Yeasayer's 'O.N.E.' are neck and neck for my favourite, but I've overplayed Yeasayer and so TA are claiming it at the moment. Darwin Deez's 'Radar Detector' is a surprise third, it's just so fucking tasty. I don't have my full iTunes to hand so I'm sure I'll miss some great one-off releases from the dubstep/post-garage community but some other tracks I have loved include:
Crystal Castles' 'Baptism'; MGMT's 'Siberian Breaks', Fang Island's 'Davey Crockett'; Ikonika's 'Video Delays'; LCD Soundsystem's 'Dance Yrself Clean'; Kingdom's 'Mind Reader'; Hot Chip's 'I Feel Better'; Beach House's 'Take Care'; Skream's 'Listening To The Records On My Wall' and, though on a 2009 album, Arctic Monkeys' 'My Propellor' still hits hard.
Now you.
