Sounds like the most clicheed piece of dance music ever written....WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH HIM
the dude from Spank Rock. um, okay then.
If it is, then it is quite possibly the most useless and pointless cover version in the history of music.
Chromeo's Tenderoni was, mildly put, a bit of cheesy electro house fun. Neither worth remixing and certainly not worth putting out on your solo album. Stinks a bit of LACK OF IDEAS/LACK OF TASTE.
Is he angling for a stint at Ministry of Sound? Playing weak electro sauce to binties and chavs?
listening to it now. Its so Armand Van Helden it hurts
Seems he sticks to that trick for the entire song
but there's something else it reminds me of that I can't quite place my finger on... something I don't listen to.
That's the song I was actually thinking of when I said it sounded like that Rogue Traders song, but I couldn't remember what this one was called! It's THE EXACT SAME.
Its not got the catchy vocal hooks, Wiley at least has a flow Kele just does his usual rubish vocal style he does on everything that only works once in a blue moon. It sounds more like David Guetta.
you are an indie man not a dance music man
hopefully this will cure bloc party and put them back to what they were.
he uses the same vocal hook he uses on 50% of Bloc Party songs.
Beth-nal gre eeen
better than anything bloc party have done in a fair while
sounds like it was written to go down well with drunk people at festivals - quite contrived in that sense...
Given that any tv ad for a generic dance music comp sounds like dance music has not moved on since 1995 then at least he's consistent with that...
Probably won't listen to it again deliberately.
Kele thanks for coming and best of luck in the future, but I'm out.
That's pretty bad
I love songs like Wearing my Rolex/Yeah Yeah therefore I love this
dance tune with a vocal you can only half understand.
I loved Bloc Party when they 1st appeared and the 1st album. I liked some of the 2nd album but since then with every passing release, I've got more disinterested.
I don't expect Kele or the band to produce another album the same as Silent Alarm but I'd like to hear something from them which got me excited again and saying to my mates 'You've got to hear this new Bloc Party song'.
I was hoping this solo album might do the trick but going by that song. It's a no and I'm out from me as well.
... right?! That's terrible... I agree it's just 'Yeah Yeah' spliced with 'D.I.L.E.M.M.A' but without either's charms
When all their songs are completely tuneless and when they do occasionally write something resembling a hook its always
And they don't.
that just enless churns out this kind of shit?
This proves my theory about what happened with Bloc Party.
They put out Silent Alarm and it was great.
They tried toying with their sound a bit and WITC happened. Was alright but wasn't anything near the debut.
Kele thinks to himself "The only way we can possibly recover that sound is by making a drastic change to our sound."
He decides Armand Van Helden-esque house is the perfect style to try and emulate and tells this to the rest of the band. They aren't so convinced, but awkwardly half-embrace it while still trying to retain their initial indie-ness, leaving us with Intimacy.
Bloc Party decide to "take a break" so that the band have time for Kele to get rid of his weird obsession with 90s dance music and possibly start to write good music again.
but all I could hear was this:
but I'm enjoying this song. It's fun, disposable pop. I liked the last BP single too.
i just hope the whole electro-obsession that Kele seems to have ends soon
it's the 'no tune or originality' one.
Oddly the Bloc Party kids are going crazy over this on the ol' facey b. I seem to recall them proper kicking off when Mercury came out.
In other solo album news, just did a lolza at this from 'Killersfan14' on NME.com in response to Brandon Flowers confirming his:
Apr 30, 2010
"OMG!!! thats so awesome that hes doing a solo album!!! ive been waiting for a new album to come nd this is just perfect...but i hope they dont get it into there heads to split up cuz i would go crazy!!! but this is just awesome that hes doing one!!!i hope it becomes a complete success!!!"
WOAH there pickle!
I'm hoping that Gordy will put out something. I reckon he's the one most likely to come up with something more in keeping with Silent Alarm.
cut him and he bleeds Au Pairs 7"s
the question is whether he's got the songs to match the style.
Gordy, Paul from ycni:m and Will from I was a cub scout/brontide. Should be good.
Kele's stuff was always going to be a let down and Russells Pin Me Down sounds rubbish. But from the pictures on their website it seems Gordy is actually playing bass and doing some singing again. Very promising.
this is a massive step up
is Gordy's new band with Paul Mullen (ex Yourcodenameis:milo and now The Automatic) and William Bowerman (ex I was a cub scout and now La Roux/Brontide drummer).
No tracks up on their website/myspace yet, though...
They've only done 1 gig I think so far.
What on Earth is Kele Okereke doing making dance music when he's so clearly fucking awful at it?
He's making music with the same pathetic desperation as a man going after a no-good stripper after splitting up with his devoted wife
I'd say it was trend-chasing, except that fuckawful Van Helden shit hasn't been a trend since 1906
Like BP singles did
half to be given away online half to be saved for a remix album or 8000.
Is his image still up there on the wall of that Kings College building near Somerset House - where they've shoehorned him in next to Keats, Desmond Tutu, Florence Nightingale and other far more notable Kings College alumni? Christ, that used to piss me off endlessly every time I walked past it.
It is a bit odd. I mean its not like Exeter Uni decided to call a building the "Thom Yorke Building" which would be basically the equivalent.
that still thinks A Weekend In The City remains Bloc Party's masterpiece?
as Transformers is a masterpiece of existentialism.
Takes a lot of listens whereas Silent Alarm took one.
