Chairs Missing for me
I was just listening to Pink Flag, love it. Still not got around to grabbing the others yet.
Probably 154, but Pink Flag is almost as good.
I Should Have Known Better is one of my 3 or 4 favourite songs, and the rest ain't too shabby - a fever-dream in art-rock
All different, all great.
If I absolutely had to choose, it would be 154.
But I don't want to choose.
which would you recommend?
its tightly wound and intense and generally superb.
They played loads of stuff of it when I saw them at ATP as well.
Pink Flag is my favourite though.
Anyone heard the recent 1976 demos bootleg? Picked it up at a record fair a few weeks back. Pretty cool stuff from when they were a five piece. Was only £8 but it's on indietorrents if you wanna hear it.
Pink Flag is flat-out great start to finish; Chairs Missing is less consistent but reaches some higher heights in the process. I'll go with Chairs Missing.
P.S. My Bloody Valentine's cover of Map Ref. 41N 93W is perfection.
To me it feels like their most coherent album, even though my favourite two Wire songs are on Chairs Missing (I Am The Fly and Outdoor Miner). All three are gold though, three brilliant albums released in under two years, they don't make bands like they used to.
The Rockpalast gig is really worth watching if you're a fan of 154, they did the gig a few months before they recorded 154 and they played most of the songs from it, so the songs are much rawer and lack some of the atmospherics from the album versions. Most of it is on youtube. At one point during the gig someone shouts "Outdoor Miner!" only for Graham to go "we're not a jukebox". Haha.
I'd say 154.
If I was to pick one of the three though, it'd be 154.
and I must say that before this thread I'd never even considered listening to something else then 154 or Pink Flag. I guess it was a proverbial deaf spot for me. Will get onto Chairs Missing then...
oh yes, and 154 is my favourite
without question. The other two are classics, but 154 just blows my mind every time.
This has just got 4 rewinds by me... if I was doing a non dance DJ set I'd pull this one up at 28 secs and play it again to tease ya before dropping the whole thing. Is it bad I still like the Fisherspooner version :S
just Pink Flag, the first I bought, but bought Chairs Missing a few months ago and think it is a truly outstanding album
Yet. I prefer Chairs Missing ever so slightly over 154
Another vote for Chairs Missing.
I'll put a word in for Object 47: their last album. Especially the opening track. On first listen it sounds like the most mundane piece of pop-rock ever, but its got an uncanny element that draws you back in again and again.
Can't say I'm a massive fan of Githead- Colin Newman's 'other' band, although I must give them another try.
