So says Roddy Woomble:
'i'd quite like to see idlewild' - HIATUS.
It sounded as though they were really becomming a 'band' in that classic American sense; who'd grown up together, developed and gotten to the point where they were gently experimenting with brilliant consistency.
If they hadn't mis-stepped so badly on the two before that, this could all be a different story. It's a huge shame because they've always struck me as the kind of band who genuinely deserve to make a living at this :(
hopefully the 10th anniversary 100 broken windows special edition materialises and we get a final farewell tour off the boys, with medium sized venues selling out. give them a proper send off, its the very very least they deserve!
Playing 5 or 6 songs from 100 Broken Windows as well as Captain and Hope is Important tracks... seemed really comfortable with what they'd become and how they sounded.. tis a shame and hope it's not the last we hear of them
means thay can do a reunion in a few years and people will care more than if theyd just kept on going
...4 times in the last year and a half or so and they were fantastic every time. So under-appreciated.
The 'album shows' in Camden last year were two of the best nights I've had.
especially as I saw them last night in Northampton and didn't have an inkling that it was potentially the last time I'd get to see them play live. It was the 14th time I've seen them last night so catching them on every tour had become a bit of a sad obsession.
I assume Roddy and Rod will be concentrating on their solo outputs from now on, but I don't think anything they've done alone has been nearly as good as when they're together as Idlewild.
I've seen them seven times and thought that was fairly bad.. ho hum at least there are actually fans out there
But as they said, less demand for their music with each album, Radio 1 no longer interested, how much longer to they go on? Obviously hope they continue though.
although Love Steals Us From Loneliness is brilliant.
I don't get why so many Idlewild fans don't like Make Another World... it's a great record.
when it came out it just felt like a natural progression (A progression which most people didn't really want to happen) and it feels like a record that they wanted to make. Make Another World on the other hand is a solid record but it feels a bit more contrived and almost as if they felt they needed to make a rock album again after the reception to W/P. Post Electric Blues is to me the sound of a band who are finally totally happy with how they sound and where they now are as a band and I'd say any time I've seen them live in the last couple of years supports that so it would be a shame if they are planning to call it a day.
100 broken windows > Warnings/Promises > Hope is Important > The Remote Part > the other ones.
Some good tunes on Make another World, not really got into Post Electric blues though.
One of the best live performances I've seen the first time I saw them. Only caught them 3 times, though.
The tour they are on now in which I saw in Brighton felt a little weird. They played 'unusual' songs and just felt out of place. Little communication on stage. You could hear a pin drop in the crowd.
It's probably wise and healthy for them...but you know, give it 10 years - ATP will pay them a nice sum to reform and curate a butlins!
Post Electric Blues is an excellent album, and I never even considered that it might be their last.
I must say, I'm pretty surprised. I recall reading an interview with Roddy last year where he says they'll be making alums for another 20 years. Something like that.
And in the liner notes to their new 'best of', which were written this year, Woomble finishes up by talking about how they're still learning and how there's hope and excitment for the future of the band.
but who the hell needs another 'best of'? Shame no-one bought their last album as it was pretty good.
Oh well, glad I saw them last November now.
come back when you can make another Captain.
