Black tambourine. All their recordings have just been collected and re-released with some new tracks. They were a massive influence on POBPAH and still sound fresh as a daisy.

I always had them pinned down as Britpop relics until the Quietus wrote about them. Their older stuff is pretty much as you're describing.
I'm enjoying their stuff at the moment.
haven't heard a song by them yet that isn't absolutely brilliant
but think they have a slightly more dour jangly thing going. I've only got their Roky Erickson cover and that "Beachy Head" song, but both are ace.
basically just check out the Sarah and Slumberland back catalogues.
