on December 7th, still no Bernard Butler.
Do you think they'll sell it out?
Tickets on sale on Friday.
I realised it was in fucking December. That's what, seven or eight months left to sell it out? With no high profile festival slots (if any at all?)
Might happen. Maybe.
they only played Brixton and the Astoria on their farewell tour. even assuming no repeat sales, both combined comes to about a third of the the O2's what, 18,000 capacity?
I saw Depeche Mode there recently and it is, like, A STADIUM!!
I'll always have a soft spot for them but I'll be pleasently surprised if they pull this off.
It could be pretty embarrassing if they don't get close to filling it but maybe they'll put some higher profile supports on the bill and the tickets will shift? I was at V Festival when The Tears were given the headlining slot in one of the tents... You couldn't get in the tent while Babyshambles were on. People were spilling out. They finished their set, the tent emptied in about 5 minutes and half an hour later approximately 45 of us watched The Tears. I was embarrassed for them. Obviously the Suede name is a bigger draw than The Tears but...
fucking Placebo had the gall to book an arena tour last year and even though I didn't go the amount of people swarming into the dome (that I saw on my way home) implied that they had filled a majority of it. Placebo! There's a band we all had written off a while ago.
Perhaps if they close off the top top tier, that would take capacity down and it would still look comfortable. It's Take That/East 17 reunion all over again!
for those Placebo gigs, cheap £ and all that
Well YOU CAN KEEP THEM. You jet-setting fuck.
I'm thinking, right, I properly used to adore Suede, but they haven't made a good album for about 12 years (and not in 'a Led Zep way', in 'an Oasis way').
Does seeing Animal Nitrate whilst sitting down in a big stadium really attract people in 2010? I know we're all getting on a bit now, but we've not sunk to that level, have we?
They're a more popular band than many people realise I reckon. They've put the work in, released consistently good albums (in my view - I'm aware that others disagree), are pretty popular in Europe too and deserve to be at that level by now. Suede, I'm not sure they'll fill it but we'll see.
Playing the O2 is official confirmation that a band is irredeemably shit and that their music is LCD enough to attract the requisite number of old people fruitlessly trying to capture their days of youthful bad taste... and also morons.
I retain the right to withdraw this post on the occasion of Botch reforming to play the O2.
Normally the deal is a bunch of high-priced 'intimate' shows, maybe a festival or two (they'd have fit Latitude pretty neatly). I guess Suede might have played as support in an arena before, but as far as I'm aware this is their first ever arena headline show, and it does just feel a bit weird...
I might be intersted in going - although clearly I ought to wait until the cognescenti of DiS have decided whether this reunion gig is worthy or cool enough before I do anything rash!
but, hell, I might just wait last minute and snap up a ticket for a bargain. I hope they do fill it up but can't see it myself. Maybe if it was Scandinavia...they're quite big there I believe.
