Heart failure. Age 48. Sad times.
RIP big man
My friends went to see Type O Negative / Coal Chamber in 2000 (maybe at the Astoria?). They told me that during Type O's set, Steele said, "I hear Nine Inch Nails are playing across town. I know where I'd rather be tonight." :D
Hahaha, I love Pete Steele...I am sure he was a very charming interesting individual.
LOVING YOU WAS LIKE LOVING THE DEAD.
Sad day for the goths
Never saw that one coming. This news will maybe tip Saint_Cronin over the edge...
really?!?? I was just listening to bloddy kisses the other day. man, I used to love type o during the nineties... heartfailure at 48??? I think I'm depressed now...
People need to stop dying.
You enormo-shlonged miserable fiend you. If this isn't another pretend death like the one 5 years ago it'll be very sad.
Wonder if Playgirl will reprint his centrefold spread posthumously?
"After finding out via bandmate Kenny Hickey's contacts that only 23% of the magazine subscribers were female, Steele somewhat regretted the decision..."
He had a full on stiffy too if I remember correctly. Filthy boy.
possibly my favourite word of all time.
also this is really sad, :( i don't know his music but i quoted him in an essay about heavy metal.
such a funny guy and great frontman. sad.
this is horrible and really unexpected. One of my favourite bands. I don't know how to feel right now.
I had a college roommate that was way into Type O and I never wanted to hear any of it, I was turned off by metal in general at that stage in my life. Now that I can get down with the heavy, what should I know about these guys; which album to look out for, what sets them apart, etc?
Anyone else can chime in as well.
they're like a mixture of Black Sabbath, The Beatles and the Sisters of Mercy, but with great songwriting. October Rust is my favourite, it's quite downbeat and gloomy and pretty but there are some rockers and cute pop songs on there too. I just realised I should probably be talking about them in the past tense, sad.
Pete Steele on Jerry Springer
he rounted a half arsed suicide attempt where he actually stated that he cut his wrists so he didn't damage his tendons and lose use of his hands, then when he was found and rushed to hospital he still had enough blood in him as he got a raging hard on in front of a hot nurse...!
Both tragic and comical, he's offered up a lot of entertainment over the years and I've always appreciated his sentiment that goths should stop taking themselves so fucking seriously...! Bless.
I remember seeing him interviewed on one of those old MTV Europe video request shows back in the day. I was young, and it was just before I started getting seriously into music so I didn't really know much about him or his band - but I do remember thinking that he was the coolest looking motherf***ing rockstar I'd ever seen.
See ya later, Pete.
I fucking love Type O and Pete Steele.
shit shit shit. Is this true? Absolutely gutting.
It really is terrible. What a character. What a loss.
What a shame. You just don;t get characters like this in alternative music anymore. it's all tattoos and shit hair.
In honour, i shall put on the last LP again. Amazing stuff.
Everything he did was in black humour.
such a great sarcastic man with a great bass sound... A real shame...
Im sure i had his playgirl shoot saved on my computer many moons ago.
