The world's worst band reforms. Prepare for ear AIDS: http://bit.ly/9RFwHI
Mainly because someone I used to know was obsessed with them and they're really not that deserving or talented enough to warrant any level of adoration close to that. Thinking about it though, this person liked The Killers too so maybe they're not a great yardstick?
But there are and always will be lots of bands I don't get. I've just stopped 'hating on' most of them now, finding I could generally spend that time more wisely trying to educate Theo about pop music.
But i canny be arsed with the NMEs inevitable wanking over them solid for the next 6 months type thing. Although i don't read the NME anymore so i don't really know what i am talking about. Hey fuck it.
but I find it quite hard to be as affronted by their obvious rubbishness now as I did in 2003.
What A Waster
Can't Stand Me Now
Don't Look Back Into The Sun
Time For Heroes
all great songs with surprisingly good lyrics for that type of music.
That NME interview in the link is fucking atrocious. Seriously whens the last time Pete Doherty took a fuckin bath??!!
I just like some of their songs. It's all subjective anyway isn't it?
Like, whenever someone posts 'Greatest POP songs ever' or 'Most consistent band of all time' and there follows a list of 50 replies of completely ridiculous answers like Jandek and Love Is All. They’re far from my favourite band, but I’d say the Libertines have a more robust shot at being considered great than most bands in the DiS canon - even if their spawn is horrible.
In 'Don't look back into the sun'?? Christ.
Release The Twats?
Shitemare before Christmas?
Here's hoping Doherty will commit some pathetic drug related crime, be rightfully locked up and be commited to solitary confinement where he will suffer the worst cold turkey heroin withdrawal of his pathetic life while his bandmates bore Reading shitless with Dirty Pretty Things songs, reunion over, no one cares anymore, the whole fucking mess becomes a distant memory.
buty i dont get why people are cumming in their pants over them reforming, i got dragged to see them a few times when they were around by an ex of mine (she was a big fan) and they are really one of the worst live bands ive ever had the misfortune to witness, out of time sometimes, out of tune a lot of the time, bad live vocals , the full works really! its not gonna sound good on the main stage at all, or anywhere for that matter
and it was brilliant.
Even if I do think they only have about 3 really good songs.
They need to be playing small rammed sweaty places, not big open grey fields
now I have a feeling of nostalgia towards them and their music. I'd rather they didn't make any more music though, I could see it going horribly wrong.
Incidentally me and my friend are having a nostalgic evening on Thursday, this will involve listening to The Libertines (maybe some other stuff relevant to the good old days - haha geddit? etc.)
and drink whiskey/play an old version of Pro Evo :)
the rest of you are benders.
I won't be busting a nut to see this reunion, but they have a handful of songs that still make my heart beat that little bit faster.
to the 'knees up mother brown' nothingness of the Libertines.
...fucking love The Libertines. I'm far from ashamed to admit it. I love the way that it can all fall apart, I love the poppiness, I love the singalong choruses, I love the shitty disjointed guitar solos, I love the fact that a lot of music snobs hate them, I like the Britishness of it, I love the fact that it started fast but it ends so slow.
A lot of numpties love them, a lot of kids love them. I don't care. I love them and I couldn't care less if I get shot down by pretentious cunts.
and 'Don't look back into the sun' is the kind of song that makes me go all mental and start air-guitaring when it comes on my ipod
