SORRY.....but i like it. I think its fucking cool. Never liked 'Kids' anyway...
Looks like their doing the whole make-pop-record-get-fame-then-make-album-we-wanted-to-make-in-the-first-place. Nothing wrong w/ that.
But writing a song about him, doesn't have the same cultural oddness as writing a song about Dan Treacy, because while he's still a bit of a cult figure (DiS got him confused with Jowe Head in a review a while back - not a dig, just an observation, and I think when he supported MGMT he was booed off), wheras my mum probably knows who Brian Eno is, and he's produced Coldplay etc. etc.
That said, only heard this the other day but it's gorgeous: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2WURHY3D4A
Maybe if it's alienating and difficult, I might try listening to this MGMT album. I tried before, but their streaming thing was rubbish so I gave up after about 30 seconds.
and I'll blame it entirely on a post-ATP comedown of too much alcohol and not enough sleep, particularly as I've been a long standing fan of the TVPs for twenty-odd years and managed to acquire most of their seven-inch singles to boot!
As for 'Congratulations', the first half of the record is quite enjoyable but 'Siberian Breaks' is wayyyyyy too long while 'Lady DaDa's Nightmare' is just self-indulgent nonsense.
Didn't think much of it really. But I agree that it is more their 'real' sound, whatever that is. I like their 3 big hits, but they aren't at all representative of the album they come from. I'm not so sure about the rest of the album, but that is mainly down to their record company promoting them rather sneakily as a completely different style of music.
Thus meaning GOOD.
and jealous of this album. Can't spell England without "gland"
