Anyone (Jamie?) know the times for ASMZ and support tonight at the Elec Ballroom?
Alexander Tucker 7.30
Silver Mt Zion 8.30
ATP website says doors at 7.30 so glad I checked!
ASMZ were on at 9.
was almost perfect, easily the best I have seen them.
Anyone that's still beating up on the new record is on glue. It all sat perfectly alongside Dead Marines and Microphones (the only let-up in the night's 10/10 scoring for me).
What we got:
There is a Light
God Bless Our Dead Marines
1,000,000 Died To Make This Sound
Microphones in the Trees
The banter was hearty, long (I measured well over five minutes between the second and third tunes) and absurdly cheerful by Efrim's standards; the love and hope was as genuine as ever, though.
never had efrim down as the type. hope they play god bless our dead marines in brighton
I remember seeing SMZ at the scala a more than aa few years back, and cringing inside as the crowd kept drowning out Effrim whenever he tried to speak. Last night he really had a comeback for anything that was yelled out, the crowd are much more behind the band these days it seems. He even got laughs with most of his come backs, especially the "Bring back Godspeed!" heckle!
Thought they were on top form last night, the new songs sat in the set real well. Metal Bird as a set opener was perfect, and both There is a light and Piphany Rambler were as good live as there are on record (a record that has been growing on me with every repeat listen - those 3 songs particularly). My only gripe would be that without the cello and extra guitar Millions and Marines sounded a little emptier then before, but still, it was a great night.
6 songs 2 hours - I love that band!
Classic mix-up. Great gig though, loved the banter.
"Why don't you fucking bring back Godspeed? It's not hard, there's only four chords. Four chords and a really long runway..."
Something like that, quality stuff.
No answers, just a list of questions they're clearly fed up of hearing:
godspeed had peaked, id place every smz album above yanqui uxo (except maybe 13 blues) and the 2 post yanqui live tracks were just more or the same. it would be good to see godspeed live again but id much much rather have new smz material than godspeed
What was everyone's opinion of the support act?
And he never disappoints. But I want a new album dammit!
The excellent Bleeding Heart Narrative are on at 7.20pm.
they were great. didn't know any material but loved it.
banter was superb
'There Is A Light' completely destroyed me.
