I only got the former today but Illinoise rather poos all over it a bit.
Is my impression so far.
Michigan's good, but a little beige.
Seriously though, Illinois came out five years ago, and The Avalanche wasn't long after. Isn't it about time we got some more tunes from him?
I remember hearing about it but I didn't ever see/listen to it, think I just forgot it ever happened. Will investigate... Is it any good?
and that's saying something.
"For The Fatherless In Ypsilanti..." is heartbreaking. Both incredible though, of course of course, and very different atmospheres.
I just don't understand where people get this from. It's clearly called Illinois on the spine. If you're going to take the cover literally it would at least be some variation on "Sufjan Stevens Invites You To Come On Feel The Illinoise". Just sp[jopsdfjidf
so they don't see the spine. They just see the ginormo 'ILLINOISE' that totally dominates the front cover. He has noone to blame but himself.
And as for the abbreviation, everybody calls Fiona Apple's second album 'When the Pawn...' and not it's correct title, which is 'When the Pawn Hits the Conflicts He Thinks like a King What He Knows Throws the Blows When He Goes to the Fight and He'll Win the Whole Thing Fore He Enters the Ring There's No Body to Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might So When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand and Remember That Depth Is the Greatest of Heights and If You Know Where You Stand, Then You'll Know Where to Land and If You Fall It Won't Matter, Cuz You Know That You're Right.'
And plus, 'Illinoise' is a much cooler title.
'Greeting from Michigan' when the record's just called Michigan? I agree that he kind of has himself to blame for this, but FFS.
Illinois is the better record, Michigan seems a bit too samey.
and then reconsidered. It's not really the same thing, is it? Her's is a) much, much longer and b) guntrip gets more offended by the additional e than anything else.
But yeah: Illinoise is much cooler. I love two words ran together when they're clever (as opposed to Brangelina or jeggings, obviously.)
i could at least accept it if people were calling it "Come On Feel The Illinoise" because thats an ace play on a classic song. But they don't. It's such a case of monkey see monkey duh and just repeating THE BIG WORDEE on the front.
Illinoise is an abbreviation for AN INCORRECT TITLE.
So, yeah, I dispute that "he only has himself to blame".
the album is called Illinois.
Illinoise all the way...
the next one about Ohio is going to blow them both out of the water.
'Ohioe Silver Lining'
but I still prefer the one by Sun Kil Moon
the one by CSN&Y.
Got Michigan so I could have the whole States set (like it'll ever happen), and was disappointed. Like Rufus Wainwright albums, it has moments of loveliness, but I struggle to imagine myself sitting through the whole thing again.
