Has anyone got some suggestions? Looking for stuff similar to Oneohtrix Point Never.
stellar om source
sam goldberg / mist
gives a fairly good idea :)
there are some sound samples of Oneohtrix's label releases here
there should be samples of Emeralds and stuff too. It's a fine shop!
I especially recommend 'Flower Man' also, he/it is great.
Only just getting around to the older stuff but Phaedra by Tangerine Dream is awesomely massive and cold sounding. That's on Spotify.
while watching Wonders Of The Solar System. Good combo.
I think Mark McGuire plus some walking dancing people is a good combination too!
I stuck it at the end of my next DiS column.
but I bet that's it. The guy who does these videos rules, I like his reconstituted ones
he picks out the funniest bits loops them over and over
'I, Thighpaulsandra' is one of the greatest albums of the 00's. Still haven't heard his other solo stuff. But if you thought Coil was far-out, jeez. Avant-synth-prog MAYHEM of the most brain-sizzling order. Dude's a genius.
i've heard bits of Emeralds but none of the others so i'll be checking them out, cheers
(His recorded material is a bit shit though...)
Stellar Om Source. I discovered her music last month, saw her live in San Francisco. Amazing synth work. www.myspace.com/omsource
otherwise, definitely Emeralds
Tangerine Dream, as has been mentioned, I'm thinking Zeit or Phaedra. And Klaus Schulze's solo suff, maybe Cyborg. These albums are great, synths had only just been invented and you can almost hear them wheeze!
Try this fellow out, he's been featured in Wire and on various Radio shows. I picked up on him when he was played on Freakzone. Don't know much else about him but his stuff is pretty eclectic certainly on his own.
You can download his last album for free here:
But I can only listen to it so much cos I love my beats and it has none... and that kind of bores me. So maybe get some Actress, his new album is so good. It swerves from cold sparse numbers to dense psychedelic workouts. Its got that sketchy nostalgic thing that Oneohtrix Point Never has too but it goes more places and Actress has more about him with song structure too.
definitely an addictive record - everything the tracks do sticks with you
bit like this (if you can come with hypemachine) http://hypem.com/track/1035690/dem+hunger+-+horse+stomach
I only really listen to the OPN record late at night and when I don't really need beats.
he's in some neverland between ambient and everything else. He aint chilled anough to be ambient and aint anything else enough to be worth really going apeshit for. Which is kinda cool in its self but I dunoo if it really comes off. I kinda feel the same about Emeralds too. Its all a bit in the middle of ambient and realy going for it. But doesn't really pull off one or the other. Or nail this middle ground.
I come with hypemachine when it works, which it doesn't sometimes... But this on does and its got the boogie I like it. Nevere heard of Dem Hunger either nice one.
it's beautiful, and near ambient, but still can hold your attention fully if you want it too. I'm also a big fan of the melody/discord interface that people in this genre (does it count as a genre?) seem to exploit fairly frequently.
yeah this a more mellow album to some of his others. try the tracks on his myspace site. www.myspace.com/soileddirtybeats. The songs Nil by Visual and Major Chunter
His previous works are more extreme with beats.
Ill check out actress thanks
some here, further down the page, mainly about german kosmische stuff
but that OPN one is great. so many great records.
I didn't realise
One of my favourite records of the year so far. Haven't heard the new OPN record, but keep reading all the positive press it's been getting.
they were amazing!
remixers, designers. filmakers... weird synthy/grimy music a bit cLOUDDED meet foals!
but try Eleh. 'Location Momentum' is a good place to start.
