Besnard Lakes
Loving this new album! It's the sort of record I've always hoped Low would make.

I really really enjoyed it!
I have loved all their output to date :)
it's brilliant
it's like an entire record of the really good bits from the last one. so many BIG SWELLS of sound and oh gosh. going to listen to it again in a bit.
Love it.
Wasn't too sure at first, it's more polished than the others and maybe I wish it was a bit more wonky like the others. I was listening to Volume 1 this afternoon, Thomasina has to be heard to be believed.
New one's a grower for sure though. Chicago Train floors me every time, can't wait to hear it live next week.
found it far too polished
and a bit boring...
Loved the first 2...
'It's the sort of record I've always hoped Low would make.'
What the hell? I can see some similarities, but they're both great bands in their own rights. It's not as if Low have had a crap career.
I like the new album a lot, but I've come to the conclusion that it's weaker than 'the Dark Horses'.
'it's like an entire record of the really good bits from the last one. so many BIG SWELLS of sound and oh gosh. '
I'm really confused by this comment-it seems like the complete opposite to me. The previous album was at such a constant high and intensity, that this one seems like very subdued in comparison. To me the best bits of the new record are the crescendos that were numerous in the last record.
Really, really, really looking forward to seeing them in a couple of weeks. I think a lot of people are gonna miss out on something special.
agree with much of what you said
but your promoting this tour so you would say that ha!
cannot wait for the Manchester gig, I'm pretty sure already it will be the gig of the year for me. Ace intimate venue, Pineaple folk (I think its them?) seem to have secured Alcoholic faith mission as support jst to top it off, soooooo good.
I have fond memories of Agent 13, Laos, huts and Opium.
promoting the tour?
this is news to me (tho it is sunday night and my brain/memory isn't working)
They've somehow slipped through the net with me
Been aware of them for ages but only just got around to making an effort to actually invest some time in them, great band!, cargo should be good. bit surprised it hasn't sold out and that none of the other dates on the tour have either though.
I've seen them a couple of times this week,
they've been great.
But Low, seriously? What?
don't get me wrong
i love Low, i just sometimes wish they'd blow the studio doors off, rather than threaten and tease, leaving me breathlessly wanting and more and more...
really loving this record is what i meant. wasn't a slight on low, just a thought. i kinda went off low after seeing them do a don't like back show, will fall asleep listening to trust tonight.
seems like it is worth putting this here
semi-jag... If anyone wants half price entry to the birmingham gig £5 instead of £10 on the door, just send me a pm....
should be a great show.
for anyone not on Spotify who hasn't heard some of the tracks
just uploaded 3 streamable ones here: http://drownedinsoundcloud.com/post/464147570/the-besnard-lakes-albatross-glass-printer
every single time I see a thread about this band I think
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPo9ISQpzvM
think i prefer the last one
but new one is still supergood
I'm late to the party as usual
Just put this on for the first time. Only on track 2.
Thus far it's frickin magnificent!!
which album GS?
"The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night"
That IS the new one, right?
yep
Y'see THIS is why i love DiS!
Wait 'til you hear their previous one
I'm on my 4th or so listen in 24 hours
Such a good record! Really *really* loving it.

They're playing 5 more bloody times! With Dead Meadows and Dungen!
I thought the same, but I think those dates are for Wolf People
Though my heart did flutter at the thought of The Besnard Lakes at the Groening ATP...

Been trying to buy these all morning
but WGT payment handling site sage pay isn't working - can't buy with either visa debit or visa credit. Sort it out FFS.
Seems to have been sorted now.
Jimmy Fallon show performance on YouTube

I saw them last night
I hadn't seen any pictures of them before, but I couldn't imagine the lead bloke was anyone else but this fella http://www.lofg.com/character_profile.php?profile_id=41
Ha!
Or Napoleon Dynamite.
easily..
one of the gigs of 2010, the amount of dry ice they used made Sunn O))) look tame. Richard's guitar work on You Lied To Me is worth the admission price alone.
Anybody that's enjoying the new record, I'd heartily recommend investing in ..Are The Dark Horse, as it's maybe a touch stronger.
'One Week' was a good song
shameless hawking of the product (apologies)
we've made Dark Horse available at budget price:

I noticed this a few days ago but Roaring Night was sold out yesterday when I tried to order (only marketplace copies available) so they must have had new stock in.
yes Amazon have re-ordered
back in stock now, apologies for delay
We supported these guys yesterday
And they were great. Also always worth a mention: they were bloody lovely, kit share, selling our merch on their table, and generally being helpful, and well, nice. Hurrah. Album is stellar, obviously.
So looking forward to tonight!
Might get the Sonic Cathedral ones if I really enjoy it
Can Wegottickets payment site sage pay sort their problem out?
Been trying to buy sonic cathedral tickets all morning. Anyone else having problems? I've tried visa debit and credit, neither working due to network connection to bank being down or something.
i've emailed Sonic Cathedral
though i'm guessing the problem lies with wegottickets rather than the promoter...?
thanks
I think it is a sage pay problem rather than wegottickets. We have a website at work that uses sage pay as well and it is a third party payment site that processes payments on our behalf.
Sorted, got the tickets!

i'm excited
:)
Any ideas of stage times tonight?
thanks to everyone who came out tonight
good vibes
I had a good time.
It was a pretty good performance, but not as great as I'd hoped.
Wolf People didn't sound as interesting to me as they did on the record, although one of their last tracks they played was great. I think the drummer was spurred on a bit by the jokey 'Play one the drummer knows'.
Besnard Lakes seemed like really nice people. it was nice to see them get Wolf People on stage for the photo, and there was some great 'banter' in between songs. I liked the smoke machines, in a 'so bad they're good' way. They improved on some on the songs I was indifferent to on the new record.
Unfortunately, I thought her vocals were pretty weak. On record she's a potent force, really ethereal and a nice counterpoint, but here it was just like she was trying to make do. He fared better, but on some of the higher notes it was a bit touch and go. Would have been nice to see them with a full band, but I guess that's down to touring constraints.
But I still enjoyed it, and a lot of it was pretty rocking. Also, the suit who was texting all the way through For agent 13-you're a prick.

who are staying my place
anyone who has a problem with tonight's performance, is going to get their cocked in by me
*kicked in by me
left the laptop unattended last night
apologies for the bad language
really enjoyed the set last night
A bit too much chatter from some cunt next to me who crossed the line and had me explode with rage at him.
I was surprised at how well their voices held up. Was totally transfixed for all but the final song where their levels seemed to go all over the place.
I thought You Lied To Me was the pick of the bunch. Slightly disapponted with Ride The Rails - maybe I'd expected them to match the might of the lp version.
Loved the banter - particularly the Eric Clapton through the ages and Child Mollester comments.
Really goog gig.
Pretty monumental I thought.
Captivated right up untill some opressive ground hum threated to bring the building down during the encore. Disaster and Devastation were both awesome, as was Land of Living Skies Pt 2.
Date added (Bristol)
The Fleece in Bristol have got them on 22nd Aug, it's gonna be really up-close and awesome!
