Is it anywhere near as horrific as it sounds?
Washed Out, Memory Tapes, Neon Indian, Toro Y Moi and possibly Ducktails. Some decent stuff but a horrible genre name. It mostly seems to be lo-fi bands with some synth/electronic action who like talking about beaches, surfing and other such stuff.
unfortunatly the diffrent name doesn't make the sounds any better :(
the subject line here. I like most of the bands!
is kind of nice and relaxing, but the music is a bit dull on the whole. Most of it sounds like your dads record collection from the 80s played through some reverb and a fey person singing on top. Its all a bit new wave minestry of sound chill compilation with better artwork some one just needs to do a reverb heavy version of that piano-y track from American Beauty and the circle is complete.
that album last year was bloody brilliant!
so not heard the whole album from them, but yeah they kind of give me that vibe. Animal Collective's latest gave me this vibe as well. I've got an ear still out waiting for something good to happen though, woozy fey indie electronica has potential in theory.
Memory Tapes is bloody brilliant and are the only band from the genre I like... well and Memory Cassette but it's the same guy, so fuck it
outside of Carles' fevered imagination.
cos shoerave went into the comedown stage and turned into chillwave then people will start getting a bit angry as the glo wears off and chillax-core will appear. The guitar toting metal solo chill out experiance.
New York Loft-Core
for obvious diffrences in the type of music
But oddly enough, they've crossed over as well:
I find some of their stuff quite emotionally affecting, but the "chill-wave" stuff tends to leave me a bit cold, by aiming to be more direct but ending up a bit fey and pointless.
I can deal with Toro Y Moi in short doses though.
Coyote Clean Up is from Detroit - runs around with City Center I think... or at least both are from Michigan.
Downhill Exxxpress http://ihadanaccident.bandcamp...m/downhill-exxxpress that is his latest album.
Also Daytime Television who has some songs on this comp:
Hot Dog Party http://ihadanaccident.bandcamp.../album/hot-dog-party
Because most of the best artists won't always make similar sounding records (already true of Toro Y Moi, and probably Memory Tapes). Soon the genre tag will only cover generic bands; Memoryhouse/Millionyoung/Blackbird Blackbird etc, so it'll be over
Cos I've got this li'l old Air France EP that's just about the greatest thing evah! It's for making luuuuvvvv....
(Mind you, Chad Valley's not doing badly with something similar)
The 'Washed Out' EP was actually rather decent and there was some good stuff on the Neon Indian album 'Psychic Chasms' too - anything that sounds like it could be on the soundtrack to 'The Breakfast Club' or 'The Lost Boys' is alright by me.
I'd agree the 'scene' does look like it's drawing to a close but I don't think it was a complete and utter waste. Nothing drawing influence from the 80s is.
