Times New Viking and Surfer Blood are fun fun fun!
Was expecting someone a bit bigger but this'll do!
that makes three bands on the bill (i think) to have covered the clean, as well as the clean themselves. amazing.
Overall not a great line-up.
admittedly it's probably not as good as line-up as usual, but there are a good dozen or so bands there I want to see, which for me is more than any other festival this year. So I'm happy. Just wish it was still at Camber Sands, but can't have everything.
that a festival featuring the clean, pavement and mission of burma can be called "a massive oh dear of a line-up". high standards, grouch?
i reckon overall the lineup looks better than matt groening. I'm excited!
Times New Viking were great at last years. This is going to be a goodie.
There didn't seem to be anywhere near as much lo-fi noise as on the records. I felt like I could have been watching any old indie band.
total emperor's new clothes.
Wanna see at least half the lineup and the rest I don't really know. Ace. Still wanna be a the Matt Groening one too but no chance.
is great, fools.
but where is shellac?!
I read Terry Riley and for a split-second died a bit inside. I was sure the National were going to be at this one too.
Glad to be going to the other one. While there's loads of stuff to enjoy, this lineup does seem to have suffered a similar fate to the MBV and Slint ones. Maybe these big-name reformed bands cost too much.
So can't pass judgement.
All in all, I'm relatively happy with the line up when I take a step back and think how few of the bands I've seen before (having now done some buying of records and Spotify listening this past month).
It just 'feels' a bit underwhelming compared to some of the more up and coming or bigger bands on the Groening bill, to me anyway. Lots of bands who are kinda quite 7/10 decent like Sic Alps and Quasi as oppossed to 10/10 awesome like Liars, Stooges & Spiritulaized.
I'll no doubt enjoy it either way. The best one I ever went to (musically) was the Shellac one and I only knew 4 bands when I arrived...
Although the lack of crowd for Cheap Trick was unforgiveable.
Would kill to see them live. They pretty much tore Barden's a new one last time, according to my trusted sources. And there's Mission of Burma, who haven't played here in 5 years. Be excited.
ps Spiritualized and Liars live have never excited me. Sorry.
But Us Ez didn't do much for me.
Liars not very good live? Really?!??!?! Spiritualised I can give ya
and I'm sure they played other UK shows that year as well.
Then I saw Terry Reid. (I love River http://open.spotify.com/album/7KvipdNbsp3CetEFcldq0l)
I then looked through the list of acts playing, and all the ones I know are bloody amazing.
Pavement. The Fall. MISSION OF BLOOMING BURMA! :-D
Is there a spotify playlist for all the artists yet?
But it hasn't got these latest folks on there yet. Feel free to add them
I've added a couple of things to it, but i'm too lazy to add everything!
.. in a similar way to the MBV that loads of great and know bands were announced early on and then later announcements seemed lacklustre in comparison, though when you look back thier is a decent lot playing. Still annoyed I can't see The Fall all 3 dates I could go to are on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the Matt Groening ATP I will be at!
Interesting seeing the MBV and Slint comparisons. It was actually with those in mind that I plumped straight for this - cos I thought the same thing (dream headliner, meh line-up) couldn't happen again.
Wrong. This line-up is really average, not worth three days of my annual vacation, and if anyone wants my ticket, please PM me. Got ace chalet mates (3f, 1m) who would make you very welcome.
I don't know many of the bands on this lineup. Really looking forward to it still - worth it for Atlas Sound, Pavement, Quasi, Broken Social Scene, Walkmen and Dodos! If other people blow me away then happy days!
and roughly what i expected 'lots of classic guitar stuff and no other headline acts to steal pavements cash'. i guess i'm ok with that.
