it's pretty much the same
have you listened to either station?
here's a fairly idiot proof comparison
the vibes are so simular, they're both kind of laid back and fuddy duddy most of the time. Yeah you wont hear Laura Marling or Yaysayer on Radio 2 but you may as well its all smooth fuddy duddy indie a millimeter removed from the sounds of Amy Macdonald or Foreigner.
I just think it always needed to be a bit more vibrant and improve. Its a shame it's not going to get the chance to.
There are the last tracks played on 6Music:
UK Decay – Sexual Just listened
Air – So Light In Her Footfall 8 minutes ago
Jimi Hendrix – Bleeding Heart full track 12 minutes ago
Dinosaur Jr. – Start Choppin' 19 minutes ago
Coldplay – Don't Panic full track 25 minutes ago
The White Stripes – Hotel Yorba 27 minutes ago
The Drums – Best Friend 31 minutes ago
Stevie Wonder – Boogie On Reggae Woman full track 37 minutes ago
Chapterhouse – Pearl 47 minutes ago
Jónsi – Go Do 51 minutes ago
I'm not sure there's much like Foreigner there. Mind you, I did put Foreigner on the pub jukebox on Saturday, so I wouldn't complain about that.
that jonsi track sounds like radio 2 music to me so does coldplay, stevie, Air, Hendrix. Which only leaves 5 that I dunno what sound like apart from white stripes and they may as well make a radio 2 show as well, the oldies love a bit of blues.
But it's fairly ball-less shoegaze from 20 years ago, it's not going to make anyone choke on their toast. Uk Decay, similarly, but with middling post-punk.
The Drums are Radio 2 as you like, and even that Dinosaur Jr. track was a top 20 hit, and is about as bland as they ever got.
So I don't know that's really helped your argument to be honest.
I'm not gonna say they are the same, I'm just going to say they're far to simular.
That's all. Even if 'that's as bland as Dinosaur Jr have ever got', I don't think you'd be hearing it on Radio 2. Even the Stevie song wouldn't be played - they'd be rocking that one about phoning someone up and telling them you fancy them.
I'm off down the pub.
that you don't think Jonsi and Air sound like Foreigner? Because I would really like it if someone made this comparison.
Jonis sounds like coldplay and Air sounds like everyone on radio 2 played at once.
Still, a lot of this is moot from my own perspective: R2's output generally ranges from atrocious (Rod Stewart, Leona Lionheart, Gene-fucking-sis and Michael Booblies; and Ghost Town by The Specials on repeat, over and over, until oblivion washes across all) to alright (Foreigner, Coldplay, Foreigner), Both stations have good tracks on their rotating playlists, but between those you've got the DJ's choices (which won't register on comparemyradio.com because they vary so much), and then you're stuck with Ken Bruce's musical choices in your ear.
Where do I start? So wrong.
Even the BBC strategic review states that 6 Music “plays a wide range of music that listeners do not hear elsewhere and it introduces many listeners to music that is new to them”
hahahaha!!! took my mind off my piles (of air and foreigner cds)
about saving 6music I'd say flood the boards, get people involved. Also given the amount of guff you post on a regular basis this is some what ironic don't ya think ?
it's not like i'm posting a billion threads. A LOT of people are interested and care about 6music. adding to the dreg-end of a too long to read debate might seem like a good idea but i was hoping people who haven't got involved, who like/love/respect radiohead, might find this of interest and might also get involved.
YOU CAN IGNORE THREADS BY AVERTING YOUR EYES.
Anyone who uses the term "real music fans" deserves a slap.
...and Sean is doing a mighty fine job.
I would hazard a guess that a huge proportion of the people who use this site (as well as the bands they love) listen to 6 music and want it to stay.
Drownedinsound has a large following and if everyone here took some action we could probably actually make some kind of impact on this decision. I'm sure Sean is aware of that.
But getting people do something like write a letter of objection to the BBC is pretty tough. So if he has to beat everyone in submission by keeping this subject alive and posting about it on many threads then so what?
All for the good of good I say.
Not that I would use one when visiting DiS.
I'm getting C&A ads. I thought they closed about 15 years ago.
just as the Sky empire started getting into it's strike. Coincidence? I think not!
what's the best way to try to get them to reverse the decision? Just write to the BBC? or has someone in internetland set up some sort of organised protest?
and fill out the online consultation response.
over the next 3months. especially to get people to communicate the WHY much clearer, as at the moment there are a lot of confused and conflicting suggestions. it can't be about an elite of any sort in my opinion. i'm still drafting my open letter to bbc.
and "WHY DONT YOU JUST TERK AWAY CHRIS MOYLZ" speak yr brains reactions in my letter/email.
Side thought, I don't really like that musicians are getting involved in this campaign. It's a bit "well no shit, turkeys don't vote for Christmas do they?"
the fact that musicians are getting involved detracts from the campaign. its not as if the majority of stuff played on 6 music is in the hunt for a number one album is it. If anything I think its great that they are passionate about a station that represents so many genres of music. Also given that many of the DJ's are musicians ex musicians its only natural surely.
Aged 14 she became the youngest Australian to win a gold medal at the Olympics.
Is it wrong that I feel grubby and comfortable about having done that now I know it's what Ed O'Brien wants me to do?
I mean in Ed O'Brien's defence he's not Thom Yorke. Maybe I shouldn't tar them all with the same brush. I've got a fair bit of time for Phil Selway...
the save 6music campaign. It doesn't does it.
Although, to be fair, the Save 6Music campaign's profile is pretty high already. If it fails it won't be because of a lack of publicity.
but I'm gonna stay at home listening to the Bends staring at a poster of Thom looking wistful now instead.
Sounds like a valid enough evening's entertainment.
