and they were without a doubt the blandest and most mediocre "supposed to actually be critically acclaimed and good" band I've ever seen live.
That said I gather much of what people like about them is in the lyrics and they weren't really audible.
They're certainly not a band I'm keen to check out again though.
ridiculously confessional and personal, but in a really gimpy sense
luckily it only cost me £8.
Definitely didn't when I saw them though I'm afraid...
quite a lot better on record than live.
The album is very patchy, the live version of, say, My Backwards Walk pisses over the studio one from a great height.
i only know the snow patrol records that are on the radio, and don't think they're much cop. maybe they do sound similar? maybe they are "girlier"? who cares?
why do fans of a certain band get annoyed when people compare them to a <derogatory adjective> version of <generally disliked band>? i just don't know either. it's so strange...
it did basically seem to be a thing for blokes who don't normally hug blokes to hug blokes to. Whereas I'd probably say Snow Patrol are a bit more girly. Can't imagine FR on Grey's Anatomy, but too drunk and hairy.
It's because them's fightin words!
than snow patrol man, but yeah the lyrics are embarrassingly open and immature, and his voice is grating as fuck. I like them, but wish he wouldn't try so hard.
if it werent for the accents no-one would mention it.
if you wanted to make a remark which compared them to a poorer version of a popular indie band then "they sound like REM but with less ideas" would probably be more apt. i love em though
the comparison to snow patrol is way nearer than rem. not saying they sound like either. and i know you're not saying they are like them but with less ideas (i hope).
the way a vocalist sings or his accent or his style is just as valid a similarity as anything else.
but it's not the only similarity. see also lyrical content and general blandness
If they sounded similar. Which they don't.
General blandness though, yeah spot on.
which nonetheless has a kernal of truth to it which makes it difficult for fans to just laugh off
...if it wasn't for the accent???
aren't frightened rabbit scottish?
and lightbody irish?
He lives back in Belfast now.
Can usually be seen sitting in the corner of the Duke of York, plastered, laughing maniacally for no obvious reason.
he comes across like an awful self-absorbed bell-chode in interviews. although he's probably a nice guy if you knew him
He probably is alright as a person but seeing as he is in the public eye I have decided that he is an irritating berk.
His face when performing live screams 'I have won a competition to be here! WEEEEEEEEE!'.
Snow Patrol were good in the day, but it's not like they're going to write a line like "Or we can kick its cunt in, and watch as it dies from bleeding."
And I dare anybody to try and tell me that The Twist isn't flawless.
i dont think ive come across a user who doesnt like a reasonable degree of ridiculously white, gimpy indie rock. And it's rare you come across those same users who wont slag off bands for being white gimpy indie rock.
i think frightened rabbit do white gimpy indie rock better than most bands. midnight organ fight is one of the most solid white gimpy indie rock albums of the past ten years.
i'd say it's only at the level of 'quite good' white gimpy indie rock
very few bands have written an album as good as When It's All Over We Still Have To Clear Up
You can't really compare the two bands, lyrically and instrumentally they are very different. Is it cos they are like both Scottish?
I think most of FR lyrics are very good, obviously they're quite centred on relationships and messy break-ups but comparing that to snow patrol is ridiculous.
Another case of a band that gets slightly popular resulting in a DISrejection, its pretty schoolboy.
