i'm sure there was.
pretty great entot? slowly but surely growing into it.
Anyway so far I think it has some of her best and worst moments, I really don't like the feel of the pianoey stuff, and some of the arrangements are a bit cheesy (reminds me of snoopy for some reason), but then there are songs like 81 which are 10/10 perfect. I dont know, it may grow on me I didnt like ys much at first.
find myself listening to the late 2nd/early 3rd album songs mostly, the more melancholic stuff like Autumn.
A cut above Ys imo, was only really Emily from that album that i go back to
I liked emily and cosmia at first but now I think sawdust and diamonds and only skin are her best, the segment in only skin from around 'hold your horses..' onwards is the best thing she has done, im sure there's gems to be discovered on the new one
so not really in a position to judge yet. But the thing that struck me most, as mentioned in another thread, is how dramatically Joanna's vocal has changed, which lacks some of the character of old. I miss the old vocal stylings.
not at all. think it suited her first album, which was more jumpy and 'pay attention!' than HOOM which has a flowing quality.
Much as I love Milk Eyed Mender (and it did suit those songs), try and tell me that the version of 'Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie' on Ys Street Band isn't several hundred times better than the one on MEM.
I've only heard '81 from HOOM, but I love how smoothly she sings on it.
where did you get a copy of this?
i preordered on amazon and they said it got pushed back to 1st March
also, she developed vocal nodes, hence the change in vocals
well, at least the thoughts within.
i feel a 1000 review coming on...
ever heard of leaks?!
UK release is now 1st March.
'81 and Good Intentions instant favourites, it's going to take a while to form a proper opinion but I like.
More than two days to parse three discs worth of material. Understandable excitement though.
I've done that thing of listening too much to the live versions beforehand though. I can't get my head round these versions of Easy, Soft As Chalk and In California. Its especially disheartening as I had two of these earmarked for favourites status
what have I gone and done
i've ruined two silver mt zion albums by doing that. luckily now they ruin them for me.
but, also, so much music! it'll take ages for me to get my head around it's entirety
loving easy at the mo, and good intentions paving company
but does the vinyl version come with a digital download code?
and although it comes in a lovely box with some lovely artwork, there is - alas - no download code.
it's probably faster to google 'have one on me rapidshare' than it is to do it the legal way. and i mean morally it doesn't make any difference.
especially Good intentions paving company and Baby Birch.
re: her voice; i read that she got vocal cord nodes or something, that permanently changed her voice. Is this even possible?
theres this little instrumental flourish in the last minute or so of Go Long that i love... is that all just one harp? because if so, WOW
