all of the DiS singles columns are compiled here http://drownedinsound.com/lists/singles
Britain's most excitingly cool soul-step wobble-jockey just got slicker. For fans of dancing and dancing with girls and girls.
FIVE OUT OF FIVE!
I like what I've heard
it wont be far away though
I was replying to ring tailed and saying its not out now.
I dunno the date its out, it might be monday but it doesn't seem to be up for pre-order in any shops apart from Rough Trade and Juno and this stuff usualy hits the dubstep specialists before that lot so I dunno wether to beleave it. Plus its dubstep stuff just comes out when it happens haha.
But I really love So Derobe.
I think my favourite track of 2010 so far although it's not been a single is Mosca's Gold Bricks, I See You off Fabric's Elevator Music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlZQ3C2ASgo
Similar vibe to Joy Orb in terms of jolly, house-influenced stuff, but for me just tops even Orb.
Mosca's Night Slugs Ep is also great and the Pangaea Ep is pretty immense. Need to pick up the Debruit stuff though.
Jose James' Blackmagic is great - FlyLo-produced beautiful Nu-Soul, the original comes with an as-always-immense Moodymann track and the remix package with a great mixes from Orbison and Untold. Orbison's especially is great, really beautiful slick housey stuff.
A Made Up Sound's Sun Touch - really great woozy, slightly deconstructed, but still pretty danceable, techno from the guy behind 2562.
Looking forward to getting hold of the new Mark Pritchard and Wolfgang Voigt tracks that have just popped up on Boomkat as well.
pangaea - why (I only have the first track, which I love for the vocal... 8/10)
cosmin trg - now you know (catchy and danceable... 8/10)
debruit - spatio temporel (good for having a little dance by yourself. sort african influenced. 7.5/10 because you only NEED nigeria what?)
dj zinc ft ms dynamite - wile out (I thought I hated ms dynamite but I can't stop listening to this. 8/10)
ben + vesper - luvinidleness (sufjan produced indie, can't believe people aren't talking about it more, 8/10)
Pangaea rules! check out Memmories too from last year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6-Vcro3wrk and everything else he's done haha.
Miss Dynamite rules too shes got good stuff, this one shouldn't be to far away coming out. I like it more than Wile Out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-g-QimJKlc and this from last year that didn't even make it out :( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPZ8uuh3JSI
TRG rules too!
My faves have been...
Starkey ft Badness - Ok Luv
Hyperfunk street bass R&B meets grime in space.
Harmonimix - A Milli/Bills Bills Bills
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFGpR0N3Yd8 / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qM8-mouRFP0
Twisted funk remixes
Sully - In Some Pattern
tweaked out garage
Terror Danjah - Acid
Rave inspired grime
DVA - Natty
bumpin skippy house music
To many more...
soulful deep vocal house anthem
like starkey ft badness too, thankyou!
I've had the promo for ages though and already written the words for it, there is a brilliant more hyper remix on the flip by Brackles & Shortstuff too! Tunes are around for ages in dubstep before anything drops, its how you can tell the bangers by the time they hit the shops haha.
Geiom is toooo good.
This is another classic vocal track of his...
Boo! with Sticky is wicked. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnauS1rnDiI
she was a regular MC at FWD>> for quite some time too in the garage/early dubstep days.
Farcically brilliant. sounds like queen.
The Swedish pop powerhouses behind Britney's smash Toxic and the excellent AM to PM/When You Look At Me double whammy from Christina Milian go their own way.
Rock solid melody and a cool video to boot. This years Fleet Foxes/Grizzly Bear I would imagine if p4k get behind it, which I bet you they do.
