Who's going then?
Most disappointing gig i've been to for a long time.
I was profoundly disappointed that I wasn't going. Disappointing is not what I would have expected
Not sure why that is. I knew it wasn't going to be Black Metal or anything but some of it sounded like Kasabian. The vocals did ruin it quite a bit.
If i'd paid £20 for that i'd have been more pissed off.
at the QEH. They were pretty good; their song-choices weren't. Especially their choices from Blood Inside which was my favourite album of the 00's. They literally picked the two most studio-driven tracks (For The Love Of God which needs multitracked Garm to really work and In The Red whose breakdown was all done with samplers and whose live performance was fucking played off a sequencer).
A lot of the live stuff was really cool. By far the best moments, and two absolute highlights of my gig-going life so far, were Funebre and Like Music. Both given 7-minute theremin outros. Holy shit did they have a good theremin player. I bet they listen to Arc a lot. But seriously, those outros were mindbogglingly beautiful and I didn't want them to end. The SOTS stuff working best live; who knew?
sent me into (sincere) raptures about how 'uncompromising' they were. it's win-win with this band.
and I enjoyed it a lot. Garm's vocals didn't quite match up to the studio versions, which is understandable really given the amounts of effects they use, but the rest of the band made up for it. It was nice hearing louder, more visceral versions of the studio stuff. A few cliched and unsuitable moments aside (the holocaust footage springs to mind) the visuals were good too.
Attila was great too, could really hear the Current 93 and Coil influences in Voidov Voices. He needs to put out an album of that stuff.
