and i'll agree
didn't really get into either of their last two albums. black and white town aside, they felt like a rehashing of old ideas.
lost souls is a great album though.
Lost Souls >> The Last Broadcast > Kingdom of Rust >> Some Cities
Some Cities is bottom of the pile. I'll happily allow leeway on the other three - my feelings over them vary from time to time.
i never really got that into the last couple of albums either, aside from one or two standout tracks on each.
nothing particularly awful about it, just didn't sound like the same band anymore, writing for the bigtime if you know what i mean.
jimi godwin's got a great voice, they should stop letting the drummer anywhere near a microphone.
Just for today. Tomorrow it could all change, except for Last Broadcast which always tops the pile for me, all be it very norrowly. All title tracks are equal though...brilliant.
but it's actually Last Broadcast = Lost Souls = Kingdom Of Rust > Some Cities
last broadcast >>>> lost souls >>>> kingdom of rust and some cities are tied
I don't understand why people don't rate Some Cities. I think it's wonderful.
Last Broadcast is probably my favourite though.
I just think it's comfortably their worst album. Struggles for atmosphere and doesn't really feel like Doves.
you may go now
transport me to another world.
lost souls>>>the other albums
As Some Cities is the only mediocre album. It's not even as good as the Sub Sub album, as that has Ain't No Love on it.
I'd also take issue with dissing Andy's vocals, as Here It Comes is the song that got me into Doves.
Space Face too!
Yeah, Andy has some great vocals on albums but he struggles a little live as does Jez occasionally, though it really doesn't bother me when I'm there.
Jimi's vocals used to be awful live. Much, much better these days, but back around Lost Souls, his were probably the worst of the lot.
Isn't on the Sub Sub album, otherwise it'd be a really essential buy. Actually, where the hell CAN anyone get hold of a proper studio version of Spaceface? Is there one?
on that Hacienda classics CD that Peter Hook compiled a few years ago. I think it's the 'proper' version, although I could be wrong...
