What is the best software for djing when using iTunes?
with the itunes reference. do you just mean that you're using mp3s?
are you looking for something professional, or just something to piss around with where you don't need any skill?
My friend wants to buy it for her husband and wants advice on what to get him.
to establish what he's going to be using it for - messing around at home or more serious use. some of this software's not cheap. you also need to consider whether he also has an external soundcard. i'm afraid there's not an easy answer i can give you, but you could look at:
there's also these, but i can't vouch for them at all:
If you mean mp3 DJing generally (minus decks presumably), Ableton's pretty much the zenith. Not cheap, unless you grab a cracked copy of it, but it's a really powerful bit of software and as much fun to mess around with as to be serious.
ableton has more production/live performance applications, whereas traktor's a straight-up dj package. there are a few other programmes that cater more for the 'automix' crowd, but that's not my area of expertise! :-)
Beginners: Just do it through iTunes.
Intermediate: Traktor (there are some nice hardware controllers for it too)
Upper intermediate: Ableton Live
Advanced: er, MaxMSP probably
I've pointed her towards Traktor
A friend of mine had a combined soundcard/controller designed to work with Traktor. I can't find it now! Will let you know if I do.
Seemed to do the job (if a bit pricey; a good external card and a separate controller with more knobs would probably only cost a bit more..)
omni control is a good option from numark, it basically does everything you would want cdj's to do, its about €250.It is alot of fun i would reccommend it.
