apparently, they are the nme lifetime achievement award winners this year. Guess they'll do the big gig then...
This is never true. They are good but they don't deserve an award like that at the moment.
are getting lifetime achievement awards.
Plus - WHAT. They released one really good album nearly 10 years ago and everything since has been a re-hash of that.
as its not even ten years since their first EP.
Either that or they are splitting up and doing one final tour or something.
Maybe in 6 years and 2 albums' time.
I feel like I should be happy, but this is down right bizzare..
From their weekly mailout sent this morning.
based entirely on whoever they can get to preform on the night...
they've only done one good album, that 'First Impressions of Earth' and it's only 4 years old.
because the band/artist needs not only to be still playing live, but also be big enough to fill 02 sized venue. And also Strokes were voted best album of the O0's, so they'd use that tenuous nonsense to justify it. I was speaking about this to a friend last year, when The Cure won. There's plenty of indie types (Edwyn Collins, Wedding Present, The Fall etc) who would be deserving but wouldn't be able to fill such a venue, so they don't get it. The whole thing is as much about mutual promotion as it is to do with actually choosing a bona-fide deserving recipient.
Although really he should get it every year.
doubt the big gig is happening this year. not with 3 weeks notice.
As you were.
I've got pre-prepared whining pieces for most bands.
it usually get announced the year before. Or have I just made that up?
