feck orf, I like them but they aren't *that* good. I voted Idlewild, I'm presuming you voted the same?
If only because most of the others that I like haven't really been 'noughties' bands due to splitting up at the beginning, or only being active for the last two years, or producing their best stuff in the '90s.
but in terms of cultural importance the correct answer would definitely be Franz Ferdinand
went with BoC. i really hope Travis don't win.
Aye, for me its a coin toss between BoC and the beta band too. For me personally I'd say BoC just edge it.
the slightly underwhelming Geogaddi?
Two. Geogaddi and the campfire headphase.
To each their own but I'd say Geogaddi is probably my favourite BoC record.
Then I choose The Jesus and Mary Chain, but I suppose I will have to opt for Franz for briefly capturing the zeitgeist or so my lecturer told me.
I changed my mind and have voted for The Delgados.
Although would be happy with Belle & Sebastian, Idlewild, King Creosote, Biffy Clyro, Boards of Canada, Beta Band or Camera Obscura
The Twilight Sad's second album is outstanding. Best album of last year, I'd say.
gotta be arab strap innit... their best stuff may have been from the 90s but they recorded meanwhile at the bar, a drunkard muses & fucking little bastards in this last decade and that's better than entire discography of any other band from scotland and/or the world.
I hope Franz Ferdinand don't win, but I know they most likely will.
Easily although Mogwai, Twilight Sad and FR all come in close.
but aereogramme and belle and sebastian come very close.
idlewild came close, but it has to be franz. easily the most interesting band and the biggest impact. it was their decade.
how FR are even being considered is interesting. and i like them
Franz may win this. They're votes have increased significantly since I last looked.
Without a doubt were the best throughout the first half of the decade then I would say Twilight Sad for ending the Alex Kapranos wank society that We have endured from 2005 onwards.
There are others bands on there that I prefer, but none are in no way able to lay a credible claim to being "Scottish Band of The Decade".
Most of the other bands shone brightest in the 90s (with varying degrees of quality 00s output). No-one originating in the 00s matches up on any level.
I'm not a big fan particularly, but second place to Biffy Clyro.
Havig said that, I gave the sympathy vote to Beta Band. One of my favourite bands, but they straddled the decades and didn't last the course of the 00s. Which shows how daft the poll is.
A "Scottish Album Of The 00s" poll? Fine?
A "Band of the 00s" poll? Of little value to anyone.
HaHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, nice one. I would have voted for WetWetWet before that shower.
Boards of Canada get my vote, close call with Mogwai though. Basically for doing something very un-scottish which more of us should be doing.
Admittedly I've never really listened to them on record but based on seeing them live they seem to be a deliberate attempt to personify mediocrity.
about who their favourite Scottish band of the past 10 years is.
I wouldn't say that's "depressingly parochial" you rude shit.
No difference to that
I definitely would if there was such a thing as an English newspaper.
Am very happy to let this nonsense lie.
I realise I'm bumping it again, will stop now.
It's The Sun. Scotland has it's own version "The Scottish Sun" which doesn't slag off the Scots in any way!
I checked the results before voting. Upon seeing Frightened Rabbit with, at the time, an overwhelmingly depressing lead, decided to vote for The Twilight Sad. If a band that came out so late in the decade - and have, in all honesty, yet to prove itself - should score highly, is that one.
To be honest, the award is rightfully Mogwai's. Seeing that the poll allows one vote per IP address, I gave a home vote and an office vote to each. I feel good about myself.
yes you just might have Chris
Without a Sluts Of Trust option.
Arab Strap, Mogwai, Sluts of Trust, The Phantom Band, The Delgados, Idlewild, Lord-Cut Glass, De Rosa, Twilight Sad, Frightened Rabbit, Franz Ferdinand, Camera Obscura, Aerogramme.
Sure, some of those brokethrough in 1998 or 9 but they've all still made awesome output this decade.
I don't know what they put in the water up there, but I'm glad they do.
this list is seriously flawed
Are they in a B&S situation? Seemingly not knowing what to do next.
In fact, that's my top 3.
Not this decade, but they shit on everyone. end.
With The Beta Band a close second.
Scars? Better than Josef K, Orange Juice or The Jesus & Mary Chain? Come off it...
I don't see how the fuck anyone could pick anything else from that list. Beta Band were the only other reasonable choice and they're nowhere fucking near the brilliance of BoC.
But not in the 00s. They virtually disappeared for most of the 00s
have certainly shot up!
Take my vote. I prefer their drunken doppelganger Arab Strap, but if given the choice between listening to either, I'd much rather be listening to Piazza, New York Catcher.
That said, I think Franz Ferdinand deserves to take the gold. While they are not the BEST of the list, they are most certainly the most solid, and have shown little sign of losing steam, especially of Tonight is anything evidence. Any band that can bat 3 and 0 is fine by me.
(Yes, I'm probably mixing up sports metaphors with that last sentence)
