i can't wait. the union chapel is my favourite venue ever.
anyone know who's supporting?
just read on his website the original support pulled out. wonder who that was?
am I the only one?
annoyed that I have to watch lightspeed champion. at least I'll be sitting down. maybe they'll have ice-cream, (I swear they did once) and I can cheer myself up with that.
I would like it if he just did the new album the whole way through.
do have ice cream
Am glad lightspeed champion are playing.Hope they make the queue system clear as well, they alway seems to screw up the queues for people with/picking up tickets.
and cake. and drunk tea.
i love that place. /twee.
Live the dream!
as his show at the same venue last year was probably the best thing I've ever been to.
It was the best thing you have ever been to, natalieshaw. I know this because, despite never having been formally introduced, natalieshaw (It's a pleasure, etc), it was SO FUCKING GOOD that if anything else in your life prior to it actually had been better, it would still not ACTUALLY have been as good cos it would have risked ruining a lengthy and bumbling reply on a music discussion thread some months hence. Y'get me, natalieshaw?
BTW, difficulty tolerating Lightspeed Champion > enjoyment gleaned from tea + cake + ice cream in a church in January
So spare pair of tickets for sale, pm me if you're interested.
this is tonight! YAY!
erm, yeah excited etc.
i had honeycomb ice cream.
i know what i'll be doing during lightspeed champion :D
in the front row, eating an ice cream, but getting it all over your face like a messy child.
and it's Sam Amidon
Saw him last night as a part of the Nico Muhly concert at the Roundhouse. Beth Orton came on to perform a song with him. It was beautiful.
I'm pretending that the gig last night didn't happen (I forgot about it) : (
And nico as well.
and then silly old lightspeed champion.
We gave Sam's new album a spin today and it's pretty fantastic.
any idea of stage times?
That was great.
I could have easily watched another hour of the Sam and Nico Variety show as well.
wonderful stuff, although I don't actually think that he played anything that I hadn't heard live before.
The only thing that wound me up a little was this berk sat behind me, who a) took great pleasure in telling his friend how well connected he was by predicting that Lightspeed Champion would play, b) laughed really annoyingly at EVERYTHING Dev and c) started singing along to Owen Pallet during the quieter songs.
(+ sorry to the people that I might have annoyed by thrusting flyers in their faces at the end)
(++ was that natalieshaw handing out the Muso's guide flyers? Hi!)
That was me!
a date at Koko in March, not sure whether that will work or not. That was amazing tonight though, perfect setting too.
"Lewis Takes Off His Shirt" was unbelievably wonderful.
What I'd love to see is a show with Nico Muhly and Owen Pallett with an orchestra.
The little fella with him looked hilarious when he was whistling.
Leaving with the feeling that most other things are pretty much futile is pretty disturbing though.
So very different to last year's...
where you leave thinking, 'I could do that'. There are some where you leave thinking, 'I could do that better'.
But then there are artists like Owen Pallett (and Joanna Newsom and Andrew Bird and Battles to name three) that emphatically reveal why you will always just be a paying punter.
His sidekick, on the other hand...
the bit where his sidekick wasn't onstage with him, he did spend vomiting..
what a gig. definitely the best i've seen owen, and i *think* that was the fifth time last night. loved sam and nico too.
what a talented man he is. he sings beautifully, and puts so much emotion into songs he must have performed a million times. He did one song without the loops, which I thought was good for variety, but I don't think I would have wanted to hear a whole set like that. The loops were seamless, when he built them up on top of each other on some of the Heartland songs I was just gawping at him.
that was without doubt one of the best gigs I've attended in many years. I was enthralled for the whole set. Nico and Sam were also as impressive as they were at ATP last May.
My first time at the Union Chapel, and first time seeing Owen live.
Did they play 'The Only Tune'?
BUT IT WAS STILL SO AMAZING OMG WHAT AN AMAZING SHOW IT WAS SO GREAT COS BY A FREAK COINCIDENCE THEY OPENED THE DOORS JUST AS I COLLECTED MY TICKETS SO I GOT TO SIT RIGHT IN THE FRONT ROW AND OMG I HADN'T READ THIS THREAD BEFOREHAND SO HAD NO IDEA NICO MUHLY AND SAM AMIDON WERE GONNA BE THERE SO WHEN NICO MUHLY CAME ON STAGE RIGHT BEFORE HIS SET I WAS ALL LIKE 'OMG IS THAT NICO MUHLY OMG I THINK THAT'S NICO MUHLY' AND THEN I WAS LIKE 'OMFG THAT'S SAM AMIDON TOO OMG COOL' OMG.
That I never managed to find a ticket for this. It almost makes me cry.
