Is this old news?
(as the band seemingly wanted), or to just stream it now from fuckin myspace at low quality with no artwork and no special moment of anticipation (as the band now seemingly want). sort it out guys.
i was all set to wait for the physical release as they made it clear thats how they really wanted their fans to hear the album. and then they stream it on myspace? just seems a strange decision to me.
ps do you only come on here these days to be confrontational and start arguments? seems like it.
As the promotional activities for the album will increase, more people will read interviews with the band, hear the single on the radio etc., as such a large amount of people will Google it and no doubt find the leak that unfortunately made its way online before Christmas.
Offering folk a chance to hear the record in a lesser format before its released in this way (where ownership isn't possible as its a stream) is a way of slightly countering the leak, but also offering people a chance to investigate the record, hear it, enjoy it and hopefully buy it as a result.
The difference between this and a leak that people put on their mp3 players, listen to and dismiss after two plays is really quite oblique.
listening on myspace?
im not criticising the band at all, after all their work is their work and it's their decision how to make it available, but having rubbish mp3s streamed off MySpace is almost certainly going to have fickle listeners make snap judgements
but it seemed one of Gareth's main gripes with the leak was that fans wouldnt get the 'whole experience' when hearing it for the first time - with all the artwork they've put so much effort into, reading the lyrics etc.
I think i'm still going to wait to listen to it properly... (if i can manage to resist)
and its bloody briliant isnt it?
think i might have to switch to that as it is a lot more conductive to actually doing some work haveing a good beat and all :P
great album! strong songs all the way through - didn't notice any 'filler' anywhere. love the more atmospheric, more complex sound they've gone with in places, which should definitely help in getting people to stop calling them twee :P. couldnt get a proper grasp on the lyrics obviously, but what snippets i did get were top drawer.
can't wait to listen properly! (ie not at work through earphones)
Gareth made such a big thing about the leak of his own album, yet appears to have been listening to the new Titus Andronicus album (released March 2009).
and you're assuming that the band/their management/label didn't give him a copy, which I'm willing to bet my Xbox 360 is most definitely what actually happened.
you don't sound mildly obsessive.
the titus andronicus leak came from a promo e-mail with a direct link to download it. it is entirely feasible that friends of the band were sent it too.
they did a joint tour a while ago:
I'll listen tonight after my hideous exam I think, although I might still wait for a physical copy as my internet's not really good enough for streaming...I can't wait to hear this album.
but I'm gonna wait up til it comes out on CD. They're doing a free gig in rough trade on 31st Jan. Might pop along to that & see if they have any copies a day or so early.
so thats where i'm heading too :P
then felt terrible when I read what Gareth said... but I've had it pre-ordered forever. And it's fucking incredible
next week on DiS is Los Camp' week. THEY ARE TAKING OVER!
