which should i get.
I love them all really. The last two were a bit less perfect- with a few songs that I wasn't too fussed with, but still one of my favourite bands. A new album is due in the next few months I think..
i wouldnt have been at the correct age to appreciate them when they were popular.Just a band i have missed out on dont really know why.
although the earlier albums may be out of print now (they were going to do reissues, but not sure if that's still happening). As non-exciting as compilation albums are, you could start with their A Secret Histoy compilation, which has a selection of songs from their first five albums and a couple of other songs. Should give you a good idea I reckon.
that's the hit one. And A Short Album About Love is great too. Anything earlier is a bit shoddy.
I really like the first two (well, the first two easily available ones) - Promenade and Liberation. Especially Liberation. But they're a bit less epic and clearly the sound of a guy figuring out what he wants to do. Some cracking songs though.
Casanova was the big hit of course and that's got some great songs on there - I don't think it's their best but I do think it's the best introduction for a newcomer. A Short Album About Love is a good but a bit of a stopgap release, Fin De Siecle has some great songs on it but would maybe sound a bit dated now in some ways.
After that the quality drops off. Regeneration is (one or two songs aside) dull, Absent Friends is a little bland and Victory for the Comic Muse has a couple of brilliant songs, one absolute clunker and the rest is okay but not as good as the peak years.
So I'd start with Casanova but definitely get Liberation and Promenade in time too.
Promenade especially flows together so well.
Casanova was my first album of theirs, and is one I love. ASAAL was a great follow-up. A bit short, but still over 30 mins. & I agree about Fin having some great songs.
I really quite like Regeneration, despite the big change.
is such a good track, I use to play it on repeate from an old Orbital Mixmag Bedroom Sessions CD.
Liberation's great too. The album's after that got a little too camped up maybe, but they've all got some great songs on them. Regeneration I actually really really like, despite it being pretty unrepresentative of the rest of their stuff. Absent Friends is a return to the early style of Promenade and Liberation and pretty accessible, so wouldn't be a bad place to start. But Promenade's the best.
